in my personal experience, all people, cops and otherwise, have no idea what entrapment really is. it is a nice term to throw around, but it actually is very specific.

the 4 guys arrested in new york for the terror plot? that toes the line of entrapment, but doesn't go far enough, imho.

Pastor Anderson claims to have traveled through the checkpoints many times and always followed the same routine before deciding to tape them, it seems these checkpoints border on a violation of our 4th Amendment Rights and can easily lead to abuses.

Two thoughts come to mind, 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions' and 'He who is willing to give up freedom for security deserves neither.'

He is a so-called pastor. He is in reality a whiny little girl, an attention whore. An adult knows how to challenge laws. See Post 60.

Have a nice day.

We are going to see in the next few years an explosion of what might be called civil disobedience. I believe it is a manifestation of the ability of citizens to network (peaceably assemble) and organize via the web. The tea parties were a part of it.

City governments, county governments, state governments are all going to be faced with irate citizens who are tired of it all.

I think it is good. Excess government (tyranny) MUST be rolled back.

I think the tasing was heavy-handed and unnecessary and was done out of spite and I hope he wins his case and gets some of those people suspended, if not fired.

I wonder if you'd feel differently if you had been sitting on the freeway behind this guy FOR AN HOUR, not moving, as he provoked the BP and the Highway Patrol into some sort of action.

Have you ever crossed one of these BP stops that are not at a border crossing? I have several times and there is no big deal...they wave you on through with nary a stop. The "pastor" caused this and is now crying. Too bad for him but he deserves to go to jail for his antics.

Sorry...I meant detention without stating a cause.

I think it just about as big a deal as it can get. Your papers, please. It's only about freedom.

Tea parties were peaceful demonstrations, lawful too.

Civil disobedience means the willingness to break laws and suffer the consequences. To engage in CD and then post misleading and untruthful allegations does not help one’s case and may actually hurt it, as no one will believe you or want to rally behind a liar (like this so-called pastor. . . NOT you, to be clear).

Best to you, sir, and have a great day.

This “pastor” was attempting to cross the border.

False

This pastor was at an internal checkpoint miles from the border.

Police never have a "right" to search anyone's car. They may have a duty to search a car if they have a warrant or have established probable cause.

To be clear, last post, there is no “papers please,” just a verbal question; “Are you a US citizen?” Verbal answer in the affirmative is all that is expected or required.

Cheers. I really am out of here.

If he was interfering with them stopping illegals they should have just shot him.

Your bitter hatred is palpable.

However, he is, by all accounts, crossing the border. Why, otherwise, is he at a “checkpoint” at the border?

I have never been across any of our borders. Yet when I was in New Mexico I got stopped at a checkpoint more than 80 miles from the border.

The Pastor was stopped at an internal checkpoint and not at the border.

Look, there is one on the I-15 between San Diego and LA. I go through it many, many times and have NEVER been stopped or even asked a question! The cars slow to about 10 miles an hour as you drive THROUGH the BP waves you and that's it.

Being a drama queen and saying that the BP are "asking for your papers, please" is ridiculous. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. Again, I ask you....have you ever crossed one of these checkpoints yourself?

Yes. And how many organizers had to stare down petty local bureaucrats who wanted us to properly "license" our demonstrations. In the United States of America!! A "government approved" demonstration!! The very concept makes me sick at my stomach.

And these "papers please" checkpoints are a manifestation of the same damn thing. I'm sick of it. And as far as the preacher lying or whatever, well then if that's what it takes to roll back tyranny, then I'm all for it. If it's worth dying for it's worth doing whatever else it takes.

Not that I can recall. I drive 30-40 K per year mostly in the Southeast US. But I've been through many license/insurance checkpoints, which in my opinion are just as offensive as any other. A complete waste of limited law enforcement resources which should be reallocated toward real crime.

Well, as I drive down the crowded freeway, at the old pickup in front of me is loaded beyond belief with mattresses (looking like an IKEA commercial) and stuffed with 4 people inside, I'm looking for a BP or Highway patrol to stop them.

I want to quit paying for illegals' services and I want the BP to stop them at checkpoints and detain them. If someone deters them from doing their job, I want them arrested. This pastor was wasting the agents time with his foolishness.

We have a war with Mexican drug cartels going on here and it isn't pretty nor a game.

Then what are they for?

They will stop cars that are loaded with 6-7 day loaborers. Or they will slow cars down if there has been recent suspects that got around one of the main border crossings ( by going through the desert areas) and they are looking for them.

Have you forgotten that the dogs alerted to the pastors car? Why did they alert? And what if the pastor if really a drug dealer. Should he be stopped?

Probable cause. I'm all for it. Been ticketed my self for speeding. Paid it without a whimper. Checkpoints? Nope. Not now, not never.
