Istook won 7 elections in a row in Oklahoma, getting as much as 70% of the vote and almost always in the high 60s. Being Mormon didn’t hurt him then. I’d say his loss was due to a poor campaign against a popular incumbent governor. The fact that Romney lost to McCain isn’t really much of an argument either. Reagan lost to Ford and came back big in 4 years. What separates Romney from Reagan in comebackability is the fact that Reagan had a pure, strong, ideological message and a large dedicated following. His 2nd try his following grew as he drew more people to his message. Romney doesn’t have the following or the message. He got 2nd place (he beat Huckabee but Huckabee wouldn’t quit) but most of his support came not from a base of Romney supporters but from conservatives looking for the best option left. Being the lesser of evils is not a great base upon which to build a campaign.

“I’d say Sanford as good prospects.”

I agree. Even if we lose with Sanford, the message we will send to the Base and General Voters alike, that we are once again the party of Limited Government and Individual Liberty will set us up well for 2014 mid-terms, and the 2016 election, and party building in General.

So Romney is “anti-women” because he didn’t campaign enough for his female candidate for governor? You mean the same woman he picked as his lieutenant governor? That’s pretty thin.

We need a candidate that is tough and we need to get the RINOS either with us or out. Stupidly there were too many dolts speaking out against McCain during the election.

Jindal definitely won’t run in 2012, but I think Palin may. She will have a fresh groundswell of support which she will tap into. I believe however that since she will be the early frontrunner (not historical favorite), like Rudy and Hillary, she will lose steam (probably split the vote with Huckabee) and lose to Romney.

I hope she wins re-election and by a good margin. This country needs fresh faces from outside of DC, like her’s. However, the last I saw her approval there had taken a dip into the fifties. These attacks on her are taking a toll.

Bingo.

I think she will eventually rebound and come back with a big re-election victory.

“I know a lot of Christians that will never vote for a cult-member for President of the United States.”

Yeah, I bet you know thousands of them. You are so full of BS, it is funny.

“the GOP better not run a cult-group member...”

Wow, that is twice you used the word ‘cult’. Good for you Mr. Born Again. You sure are deep. That “cult” has done more to preserve conservative values than all your thumper friends ever will.

No PC-talk around here; a spade is a spade. And the example given here about Oklahoma is a prime example when someone doesn’t know better than to run a cult-group-member for an office when you’ve got a bunch of Christian conservatives voting. All that happens is that the GOP-cult-candidate loses.

That really does a lot for conservative values when the GOP is too stupid to know better...

If I missed using the word *cult* a time or two, sorry I missed it...

Did you see what happened in Oklahoma, from that example given by another FReeper. That’s a prime example of how Christian conservative voters will react.

This ‘kingmaker’ has a blog? Perhaps we need to find his blog and let him know that we aren’t ‘buying’ and he will be ‘wasting’ his money??

His blog:

Perhaps we should contact him and let him know how we feel about Romney!

You can bash Paul all you want, but he did the GOP a favor. He brought back the fiscal conservatives, the libertarians, and the old conservative guard back into the party. He also attracted young and even minority voters.

All those Tea Parties that happened last month were born out of Paul's campaign BTW.

Well, freeplancer, if you still want to support Romney, you can also take it up with Jim Robinson...

Unlike Romney’s “National Council for a New America,” Free Republic is a conservative site!

If there is anyone here who doesn’t understand why we cannot support a slick socialist politician like Mitt Romney, God help you, but you’re on the wrong website. We went through this with the abortionist, gay rights activist, illegal alien supporting, gun grabbing Rudy Giuliani until someone created another website call WAnkers for Rudy and they all flew the coop. Hopefully, before too much FReeper blood is shed, someone will create a WAnkers for Romney site and we can be left to fight the good fight as we see fit!

FR is not for everyone!
