There is quite a variety of different roasters and roasting methods, from using your regular kitchen oven, to hot-air popcorn poppers, to small, table-top coffee roasters. I can FReepmail you a link to some good info and pictures if you are interested.

Tea (real tea, not that herbal garbage) is far healthier than coffee. Green tea has extremely powerful anti-oxidants in it (3x the amount as in coffee, and of a higher potency), and black tea helps to prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesteral and reduce systemic inflammation. Tea also has far less caffeine (good or bad, depending on how tired you are).

That said, I always start the morning with a cup of Joe - and I’m in a lousy mood if I don’t get it. Partly it is the caffeine, partly the smell and the ritual of relaxing for a couple minutes before I start working.

Oh crap! That means the Obama administration will declare it a drug, and find some way to either outlaw it or tax it.

They outlaw it and it means revolution (preceded by massively lower productivity and lower tax revenues). They tax it, that means that the Dems get their butts kicked in the next election.

Bring it on!

Well, I’ll be 43 Sunday. I have always kept myself in pretty good shape physically. I have a six pack and my physique has generally been pronounced pleasing to look at by the opposite sex. I use my bicycle for a lot of my transportation needs and work out with weights regularly (and have done for many years). My body seems to like and responds well to this sort of activity and I often joke to people that I am descended from a long line of Irish ditch diggers.

I rarely get sick and if I do take the occasional flu- I usually don’t stay out of work with it. I’m not one of those to stay out of work unless there’s a bone sticking out somewhere.

I haven’t drank any alcohol in over 5 years and have recently quit smoking as well. So, all in all, I guess I’m feeling and doing ok health wise. I don’t think coffee has had any negative effects on me. If anything, I believe it has made it easier for me to stay... (how to put it?)... Not fat.

My general opinion is- coffee is good!

I recall some research that showed that people who drink 2-4 cups of coffee per day have a significantly lower risk of gallstones.

In younger days, I was employed in the fast paced deadline oriented world of media production.

For two decades, every working hour was spent drinking coffee from specially made ceramic vessels the size of goldfish bowls.

Coffee was brewed continuously in specially constructed bunkers filled with heavy duty industrial coffee making machinery serviced daily by highly trained technicians.

I was a dervish of energy and a paragon of peripatetic production proficiency.

Now, with my torpid ‘I'll start on that next week probably’ home office with cats lifestyle, bereft of pressing matters of immediate importance, I have forsaken coffee ... There is no reason for me to be amped up and edgy when I may want to nap this afternoon.

But I think I will have a cup now ... for my liver.

Another coffee tip from me...

If you go to Spain on holiday and you stay in self accommodating lodging (with a kitchen) just go down to a local hardware/kitchenware shop and buy a cheap cafetera. You can get ‘em dirt cheap in Spain.

Then go to the supermarket and buy some of the local coffee. Many of the brands there offer a kind called ‘Mezcla’ which is basically coffee that has been toasted with sugar (for example, Nestle makes a mezcla called ‘Bonka’- silly name but it’s good). The mezcla stuff is really yummy. I think mezcla means ‘mixture’ or ‘mixed’ and I guess it’s referring to the sugar in the coffee. But it’s well worth a try if you’re a coffee lover.

A burr grinder makes a big difference too.

And avoid those brown coffee filters. They have the taste of a paper bag. Get the non-chlorine white ones.

What does that equate to in Dr. Peppers? I can’t stand coffee, the smell or taste. Yuck.

What is a cup of coffee? 8 ounces? So called 12 cup coffeemakers make about 56 ounces of coffee, definitely not 12 cups. What 'cup' is the standard for a coffeemaker 'cup'? A teacup? Most people drink coffee in a mug that holds much MORE than 8 ounces. So what is a cup?

I don’t have a clue how much a cup of coffee is. I use a 12 oz ceramic mug. One cup, in cooking, is 8 ounces.

Caffeine is a ‘xanthine derivative’ and as such opens the bronchial tree for better breathing, in a similar fashion though not as potentently as theophylline [xanthine is a ‘purine’]. Coffee delivers this benefit much faster than any tea you can name.

That nap is ‘time with God’ ...

Truer words were never spoken. Some of the most stimulating ideas and vivid dreams I ever had came to me during my afternoon nap.

Matter of fact... I think I might just have a lie down on the couch right now. And a cup of coffee when I arise...

I don’t have a reference link, but coffee, within 20 mins of brewing, is said to have more anti-oxidants than a serving of broccoli.
