I’m not convinced. I’d LIKE to be...but I see drugs as sooo destructive. And decriminalizing removes the stigma.

So this is your very first post on freerepublic, not that you signed up to spam us with dope threads or anything.

Posting this under two slightly different titles is the sort of “cleverness” that a drug-induced stupor will produce...

Liberaltarians are not a clever bunch.

No, not at all. This is an article I wrote on the drug problem, my very first one. Also, since this is my first time posting on Free Republic, I was not aware of the time lapse between when an article is submitted and when it actually appears on the forum. I thought my first one didn’t go through, so I posted it again. Next time I will know...

That’s a pretty darn good article. Makes some valid points. It is unfortunate that most of the posts will prove (if they haven’t already) that not many of the posters didn’t even take the time to read the article.

Sorry, should have said, “...that not many of the posters even took the time to read the article.”

It is in no way not taking time to read.
It is having lost friends and family to overdoses and adverse reactions, and having seen children preyed upon by users.

It is also recognizing the theft, sloth, and dishonesty which generally comes with substance abuse.

Many of the people who oppose this ill conceived concept once supported or were indifferent to it - before the reality of drugs hit them up close and personal.

My pathetic little pothead. Some of us did Read the same old Liberaltarian talking points spammed here many times. Including the one the pothead, though he claims the opposite (yeah right), posted but a few threads after this with the same “blog” link that the Mods deleted? Or did you miss that in your haze?

I shouldn’t even respond to your rude and uncalled for insults against me, but I will. I am NOT some “pathetic little pothead”. I do not take drugs. I am not in a “haze”. You seem to assume that everyone should know every thread that is posted here and the history of said thread. Some of us have work to do, chores to tend to, families to feed, so if we miss what you see (those of you who live here), it is no reason to start pounding out insults.

I don’t know how old you are, but I’m in my 50’s, and your comment to me made you sound like a punk.

I’m a Conservative and I analyze the world as I see it. If my opinion differs from yours, that does not make you better than me. Respect seems to have gone down the same outhouse hole as commonsense. What a shame.

Theft is a crime that can be prosecuted. Sloth and dishonesty are qualities many have who do not use drugs. If children are preyed upon, the perpetrators can also be prosecuted.

Thus, we are still back at simple use and possession. I don’t believe it is the role of government to protect people from themselves, to be their nanny, or their nurse.

Grown adults should accept responsibility for their own actions.

The war on drugs is a colossal failure, but that wont stop folks around here from cheering it on.

Many have been lost to alcohol as well. My point is that the drug war has not been won, has in fact, gotten worse, in spite of all the money that has been thrown at it. I’m sick of paying for a war that cannot and has not been won.

We want to stop drug abuse. We agree on that. But drug abuse isn’t going to be stopped by laws and law enforcement, in my opinion. Drug abuse hasn’t stopped because we have put non-violent drug offenders in prison. The problem starts early...the problem is with broken families....with kids running wild and no parental supervision....the MTV...the movies....the whatever feels good, do it movement....and the very moral fabric of our society is in tatters.

How can anyone, after all these years, claim that the “war on drugs” and our taxpayers dollars has done any good?
