Interesting.
I can taste a marked difference between a Dublin Dr. Pepper and an ordinary Dr. Pepper. Night and day.
I tried the “throwback” Mountain Dew for the first time yesterday, but I thought if there was a difference at all, it was much more subtle than with Dr. Pepper. I’d keep buying the throwback Mt. Dew, but I didn’t find it vastly different at all.
And a triple dose of sugar so much so that it made my teeth itch.
Philistine.
10am-2pm-4pm.......Dr. Pepper time!
I have to wait until I’m making a trip or someone visits me to enjoy it. In almost exactly 4 months, I’ll have a case or two, plus a visit from relatives :)
Until then, I’ll have to think about drinking it, and cooking with it. Cheerwine pound cake is the best.
I’d like to see Cheerwine go national, but understand why they might not wish to do so. I’d rather see successful & local than messed up and national.
Looking at what happened to Krispy Kreme after thhttp://www.getsomecheerwine.com/products.htmle expanded, clearly, there can be major problems that can harm the brand/brand image.
I just checked, and it is offered online: http://www.getsomecheerwine.com/products.html but the shipping is very high (more than the soda). Gonna have to wait.
It also has citrus notes and I think it’s the very best diet cola really chilled.
Later ads for 7up repeated the same theme.
The Pepsi throwback tasted like it had saccharin in it to me. I still have some in the fridge at work and I can’t bring myself to drink it.
To me, the non throwback version tastes much crisper and appears to have more carbonation (something I prefer).
Another poster noted that the cherry Dr. pepper tasted almost the same as the regular. Not at all AFAIC, but each person is different. I have pretty sensitive taste buds - I can readily taste food/drink by smelling it alone, so I may be an extreme in the bell curve.
I tend to think Dr. Pepper has some peppery overtones to it myself - almost like cinnamon and cayenne mixed together.
Yea,
Same deal here, I grew up in NC and Cheerwine was always my favorite. I moved up to PA in 86 and when I first moved here NC bottling had some sort of agreement with Coke, or at least on of their bottlers that meant it was available here, if you knew where to look.. Fortunately the 7-11 near my house was one of those places. But that contract ended long ago and its not been available... recently some other new contract or expansion has made it available in some areas of W. PA, but not many... alas I haven’t seen it anywhere I’d call “local” yet.
I too have to wait for visits from relatives of vacations to get a few cases and then savor it like ambrosia.
Yes, it was sad to see what some NY bankers and folks did to another southern institution of my youth. I love KK, but even I could see they were completely over expanding, overselling franchises... just trying to make quick bucks instead of building long term sustainable growth and business.
All I ever hope for with Cheerwine is they stay independent.
bttt
Only native Texans can appreciate the nostalgic allure of an ice cold DP in the bottle. I don’t even drink sodas any more but I’ll break the rules for a Dublin DP.
