According to some reports, at least 200 people have died so far in Mexico.
Read this comment and some others linked below for firsthand accounts:

“I work as a resident doctor in one of the biggest hospitals in Mexico City and sadly, the situation is far from “under control”. As a doctor, I realise that the media does not report the truth. Authorities distributed vaccines among all the medical personnel with no results, because two of my partners who worked in this hospital (interns) were killed by this new virus in less than six days even though they were vaccinated as all of us were. The official number of deaths is 20, nevertheless, the true number of victims are more than 200. I understand that we must avoid to panic, but telling the truth it might be better now to prevent and avoid more deaths.”

To be fair, an immunization is not instantly effective, and a decent doctor would know that.

Not saying the Mexican government and media are being forthcoming with information, but that statement alone makes statements from that particular "physician" suspect.

“No need to panic yet...”

What are you waiting for? Panic now, avoid the rush.

News articles have also stated that they had cases April 1, and others state in March.

There is a lot of - well, disagreement - in a lot of this.

Fog of war, plus perhaps the various PTB haven’t gotten all their memos lined up.

There have been other articles from Mexico talking about vaccines. I think they are doing it to pacifyl people even though there is no vaccine for this, and the regular vaccine would have no effect.

Placebo.

In the cases in the USA, a handful of people got sick. They are not at death’s door. If there is a breakout in the USA, a lot of us will be sick for a couple of weeks. Resources will be focused on the very young and the very old, those more susceptible to more serious complications.

It appears those who are most of risk of mortality are those in their prime -- 20-45 yrs -- who have healthy, verile immune systems. It's the reaction of the immune system that leads to death. The stronger the immune system, the worse the symptoms, apparently. Like the 1918 flu, possibly. It is wait and see right now. It's a good sign that those strains of the flu in the U.S. are more mild than in Mexico. That gives us some hope.

Border Infectious Disease Surveillance Project (BIDS)
The Border Infectious Disease Surveillance (BIDS) Project is a binational surveillance system for infectious diseases along the U.S.-Mexico border. The network conducts active, sentinel surveillance for syndromes consistent with hepatitis and febrile-rash illness at clinical facilities in 4 areas on both sides of the border. BIDS was established to help public health officials better understand and detect important infectious disease problems along the U.S.-Mexico border. The project is a collaboration of CDC, 9 U.S. and Mexican border state health departments, the Mexican Secretariat of Health, and the Pan American Health Organization. For more information, consult the BIDS project’s first summary publication: Doyle TJ, Bryan RT. Infectious disease morbidity in the US region bordering Mexico, 1990-1998. JID 2000;182(5):1503-10.

But typically, 30,000-50,000 Americans die of ordinary flu every year.

That sounded way high when I first read your post. Then I checked it out, and it's not:

The difference is that the 30k to 50k that die each year from flu are mostly old and frail. Not to be insensitive, they were close to croaking from something else anyway.

The pandemic flus such as 1918. 1976 and (possibly) the Mexican Flu of 2009 tend to actually kill a larger percentage of healthy young adults. One theory is that this type of flu turns the body’s own immune system against it. The stronger the immune system the more likely it is to kill you.

So a pandemic flu in the US of the 1976 type might not kill an enormously larger number of people, the profile of those who die is very different from the “normal” flu.
