Great points!! Not to mention the fact that considering the threat of terrorism it is extremely dangerous for us to allow or encourage anyone to enter this country illegally!!!

Those who enter legally are expected to prove who they are and their purpose for coming here...we have no way of knowing anything about those that enter illegally.

Excellent post. My relative is a child psychiatrist and low income minority parents are always bothering him to give their kid a diagnosis to get SS disability checks. For autism I think which is really hot these days. He says many autism kids would have been called retarded 25 years ago. But autism is happening w lots of funding these days

Many that come here illegally are rejects and criminals- that is why they come illegally instead of doing it the correct way. Of those that literally hike across or smuggled across most caught have a criminal record either in Mexico or in the U.S. Many other illegals entered legally to begin with and overstayed their VISA or other type of legal entry- but the ones we really don’t want are those that could not enter legally even in the beginning.

As far as many coming here to “follow the American dream” that is only partially true. Many come here intending to follow criminal careers or to take advantage of services and perks intended for citizens.

The intent to follow the American dream may be in some ways understandable but it is still illegal if not done the proper way.

If you want to see harsh- try to enter Mexico illegally, obtain employment there using false documents- and if you are caught (very likely) you will find out what harsh really means.

Entering illegally for any reason is flat wrong. It would be no excuse for me to break laws in order to follow the American dream- it should be no different for those from other countries. For example if the American dream is not my reality is it justified for me to break laws to make that dream come true?

The rules apply to everyone who has been in this country illegally. Once you enter illegally, overstay a visa, or violate the terms of your visa, the 3/10 year rule kicks in. There isn’t any way to get legal while you are in the US. But, once you leave, you must wait 3 or 10 years to re-enter. (it depends on how long you are here illegally. >18 months is a 10 year wait) It isn’t as easy as going back and completing some paperwork, even if you have a valid reason to be here.

I don’t know your friend, or his situation, but if he can’t go back to Mexico for 7 years, then I doubt he is completely legal.

I have a relative who overstayed a tourist visa by 2 years. He won a permanent visa through the state department lottery while he was here. He was fingerprinted, background checked, and set to receive his permanent visa. But, he can’t get legal without going back to Brazil. If he goes back, he can’t re-enter until 10 years has passed. He got a TIN number from the IRS and diligently paid taxes each year. He is a model citizen-—except for the citizen part. I have encouraged him to return to Brazil, which he will probably do once he can sell his house.

It’s time we go into Mexico and kickstart their economy into the 21st century.

We should just take over their country since we are supporting a majority of their citizens already. Or, better yet, we don't have to 'take over' we could just mandate that for every say 500 illegals we catch they give up 500 square miles starting at border and spreading out from there.

Then we sell/lease the property to business that are now outsourcing to India and put the illegals, and their other people as well to work.

We can't allow everyone to come here who wants to come. That's correct. I'm aware of the various catagories, the long lines, and the sometime long waits. People who would like to come here from Europe, for instance, have to wait because the flood of illegals has made it longer.

The flood of illegals has not made it longer. We have caps on various categories of immigrants, which is why it takes a long time to enter the US.

Or we can acknowledge that there are many jobs in this country that will not be filled by American workers because 1) they do not pay a living wage; 2) they are low-status jobs; 3) they have no benefits or worker protections.

I'd love to see the American taxpayers clamor for welfare recipients to fill those jobs. It's ridiculous to pay Americans to do nothing. It's shameful for our government to be telling the world that our people are too good to do these jobs. They could get a pay check and welfare check and we'd still save money by eliminating the cost of the illegals.

I beg to differ. If you have too many of anything, it impacts how much more you can have. A woman from the Netherlands who told me the way it was. The caps are for legals, of course.

Take a look at Table 3

FYI: I am a retired Foreign Service Officer, married to an immigrant, and a member of a grassroots immigration group that lobbies on the Hill and the VA legislature. You can differ all you want, but the facts say otherwise.

I commend your service as FSO. I’d have to know more about the grassroots organization and its’ stance/agenda. Did your spouse come her legally or illegally, and from where? Are you stating that there is no impact from illegal immigration.

Where you the one who highlighted “immigration” throughtout that document?

Legally of course. From Europe.

I’d have to know more about the grassroots organization and its’ stance/agenda.

American Council for Immigration Reform

Are you stating that there is no impact from illegal immigration.

No, there is a major impact from illegal immigration, but about twice as many legal immigrants enter this country each year as illegals. The net impact is about the same. Two Sides of the Same Coin--The Connection Between Legal and Illegal Immigration

Where you the one who highlighted “immigration” throughtout that document?

No.
