One thing I will always be thankful to Mitt Romney is how he rushed in to help her whenthe GOP cut off her money during the 2008 election.

Many conservatives regard Mitt as a rino. fyi, Mitt has helped a lot of republicans fund raise and they have included conservatives and moderates both.

I like Mitt. He’s not a RINO. He’s a genuine “moderate” Republican and a decent Christian man.

Yeah Mitt drives me crazy. He is a RINO but he does try to help some good conservatives. A real shame because I think Mitt is a decent man and he is smart.

I think the other RINOs like Specter and Juan McCain are scum.

Someone needs to remove the popsicle stick from the behind of this supposed GOP analyst and let him slink on back to the DNC where his heart is.

ZULU, I don’t wanna be in the position of defending moderate Republicans but what you said in your post cuts both ways.

Over the years, I’ve seen quite a few conservatives take a hike or sit on their hands when one of their own doesn’t win nomination.

I prefer to invoke Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment when faced with a Republican candidate I may not ideologically agree with.

Ideally, that’s what we should all do.

Guess it comes down to whether or not you are a Republican first or a conservative first.

I am a conservative first. If the Republican Party comes to represent Democrat Light as many “moderate” (read “Liberal”) Republicans wish it to be. it has no reason for existence.

I can only point to national and local experience and that indicates to me that it is far more common that liberal Republicans refuse to support conservatives than vice versa.

You mention Ronald Reagan, who was a great American, a Great Conservative and a Great Republican. But I recall that when he was elected to office the first time, a great many conservative Republicans flushed liberal Republicans out of office.

I rather look back to Barry Goldwater, a man who was in many ways similar to Ronald Reagan, yet whose candidacy was assassinated by members of his own parties, Rockefeller Republicans all.

Don’t knock lutefisk unless you’ve tried it!

OK, I'll bite.....what is lutefisk? Is it anything like haggis?

Lutefisk is a Norwegian treat (LOL) consisting of lye-soaked codfish.

I am of Scotish and Norwegian descent, and have had both. Trust me, haggis is far less unpleasant.

Well, to each his own but I think haggis might be a little harder to handle than lutefisk, which is made from salty dried whitefish, like cod, and treated with lye in some mysterious process and washed out with water numerous times in the process. Before eating, it has to be steamed in some fashion. You serve it with various vegetables, Swedish meatballs, or possibly certain Norwegian specialties like lefse. Very popular in Scandinavian homes at Christmas time.

No sheep products or oats are utilized.

I not only have tried it, it is served in my own home. I prefer korv thanks. Or as my Mom always used to tell me, you can always tell a Swede you just can’t tell him much.

A good read is a book by (some woman’s name) Martin called Bread and Cream. A classic for all scanadahoovians

Reason Magazine: The Untold Story of the Hoot-Smalley Act

"STFU" is only a good debating tactic when the only people who disagree with you already have their mouths taped shut.

I haven't followed what Bachmann has been doing and certainly wish there were more outspoken conservatives than there are, but it's hard to advance your message and political agenda if you make one gaffe after another. Perhaps the one above is just a glaring exception to the rule, another 'Potato(e)' episode in a sea of Biden/Obama gaffes, but real conservatives can play into the hands the left as much as RINOs do. Someone who aims to be the leader of the Republican party needs to do their homework. They do nothing for the cause if they end up as the conservative equivalent of Sheila Jackson Lee.

Bachmann might do well to learn from people like Margaret Thatcher, someone who had to figure out how to take on any member of the House of Commons and clean their clock. Margaret Thatcher didn’t always rely on likeability. And any successful, future conservative president will likely have a legislative agenda that will be frighteningly similar to Thatcher’s, with the way things are going right now. Even if card check doesn’t get rubber stamped by this Congress, the government and the unions are on their way to owning ever larger chunks of the economy.
