A bicycle rider

A bicycle rider is passing the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion ‘ s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming
parents. The bicycle rider jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and pushes the child through the bars.
The lion eagerly consumes the girl as she shrieks in terror.

The bicycle rider brings what’s left of her tattered clothing to her terrified parents, who stand there in shock.

A New York Times reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter says,
‘ Sir, this was the most gruesome and cruel thing I saw a man do in my whole
life. ‘

The bicycle rider replies, ‘ Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was imprisoned behind bars. I just saw this little kid in offering herself to quell the Lion’s hunger, and acted as I felt properly for the Lion’s rights to a tasty meal. ‘

The reporter says, ‘ Well, I ‘ m a journalist from the New York Times, and tomorrow ‘ s paper will have this story on the front page...
So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have? ‘

The bicycle rider replies, ‘ I ‘ m a College Professor, Animal Rights Activist and a Democrat. ‘

The following morning the bicycle rider buys The New York Times to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads on the front page:

New York Times School of Journalism: Have you seen this? Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California , was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor. On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.' So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle. Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research: 'Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.'
