I am leaning towards how he can best reinforce himself upon this “crisis”, as a democrat he will have to find a way to make him look like a savior without actually doing anything.

My guess is that he will apologize, send Hillary to negotiate and ban any further US ships from the region.

Maersk Line’s primary customer is the Department of Defense. The ship is probably loaded with stuff for the US bases in the gulf and Iraq. Hence the US crew.

Thanks for the info.

Quite curious to me. American Merchant Marine was all but killed by Unions, and onerous regulation by our Government over the years. My first impression is that something sly is going on here.

Maersk Alabama is a Danish owned vessel I would believe that has been under charter to the Pentagon apparently, however NOT this particular voyage.

This incident is worthy of further investigation.

Here we go.

This cannot be allowed. Obama will have to act.

Don't bet on it.

The first item to resolve after BO’s briefing will not be concerned with getting the hostages released, or eliminating the pirates.

It will focus on how to minimize this story, and how to draw attention away from it.

CNN will speed a short scrawl about this while they are going over Dancing With the Stars results.

I should clarify that Maersk Lines’ US subsidiary, Maersk Lines, Ltd. The parent corporation operates ships all over the world.

I can already feel the effects of the “MSM Black Hole” occurring right now.

Not a lot is being harped upon by the media.

These pirates are holding US citizens on foreign soil. The World is watching. There can be only one response.

you mean there should be only one response :-)
i agree to that but unfortunatley as usuall nothing will happen. this happens every day. as said before. this is what you get when you don´t allow the navy to engage spotted pirates.

Maersk is Danish. Maersk Lines, Ltd. is a US subsidiary that does general cargo transportation for the DOD. Maersk Alabama is one of about half a dozen ships owned by that subsidiary.

You sound like you may be a current or former "Maersketeer"...

****We shall see how this develops
A serious and extended kidnapping of Americans is Carter-esque
And will be a drip drip drip of bad news

0bomo will be inclined to pay millions in ransom, not use force of arms against his moon rock worshiping bruthas****

Or this is all a setup to dispel the notion that he is Carter-esque, and this will be dealt with in a manner most complimentary to the TOTUS.

What do you think the President will do? He may ...
1. The Obama administration has jumped into action and is now on their second draft of the official apology.

2. He will type it in all CAPS and on red construction paper to show that he’s really mad.

3. He’s probably ticked at his relatives trying to mess up his Grand World Tour.

3. He’ll have the UN issue a really mean statement. HaHaHa.

4. He will apologize for America being so arrogant as to sail a ship in Islamic waters.

5. He’s been apologizing to Europe for weeks so now he’s ready to apologize to Africa

6. He’ll buy them back using TARP funds.

7. He’ll have them fire up the word processer at the UN, time for a letter.

8. Obama may say America has “shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.” against the pirates.

9. He will apologize, send Hillary to negotiate and ban any further US ships from the region.

10. He will blame Bush.

Audacious fraudsters repeatedly scammed AP Moller-Maersk out of millions of dollars in a series of bogus shipping contracts, says the Danish liner giant. In May 2005 Maersk was now in US courts chasing $24.95m in treble damages.

A federal court has ordered up to that amount attached as it wires its way through New York banks to the defendants in the case, including Arwen Singh Sahni and his family members and associates. Those behind the scheme, many of them described as Kuwait-based Indian nationals, are also said to have pulled a separate, simultaneous con of a similar scale on unnamed other lines.

The complex scheme involved shipping low-value goods on fraudulent, high-value bills of lading and then suing Maersk for the apparent loss of merchandise that never existed, according to papers filed with the Southern District of New York federal court.

The alleged con artists even succeeded in getting a Maersk containership, the geared, 1,100-teu Alva Maersk (now the US-flag Maersk Alabama , built 1998), arrested in Kuwait to satisfy their claims. Maersk had to put up a $1.86m bank guarantee in April 2004 to get the ship released.
