ABSOLUTELY........and they should not be banning it in PRIVATE buildings either.
The only place I’ve seen what you describe was in OKC.
I live in South Florida...I have recently spent time in Chi and was just in Hawaii for a while. My statement still stands...the most common piece of litter (by number and volume) I see are cig butts.
Sure sounds like you have legitimate reasons to do so.
Don't care where you live or where you've been........What matters is where you stand on government intervention and you've already defined that..........Why are you hanging around these parts pretending to believe in less government?
But then again you folks only believe in less government as long as it suits your own cause...screw everyone else.
South Fla sounds like the place you belong........
When did I support big gov’t????
My husband and I did a clean up job in the gardens of an historical site in Maryland last week. One part of the job was cleaning out the trash that had accumulated in the hedges over the course of the fall and winter.
Because of the frequency of such comments as Boiling Pots made about cigarette butts, I actually not only made a mental note of the type of trash I was pulling out, I also made written notes about it. Even the board members who had hired us were taken aback with what we discovered.
The longest line of the property borders a municipal parking lot, the next longest line abuts a Church property, 2 other segments are on very busy downtown streets, and there is also a section abutting a private driveway.
The LEAST common piece of litter I found was cigarette butts. The most common pieces were soft drink cups and candy wrappers, followed by convenience store/fast food food wrappers and containers. Discarded cigarette butts only beat out used feminine hygiene products. Used diapers and condoms even outnumbered the cigarette butts.
This isn’t the first time I have done such work with similar results and so I call BS on claims that cigarette butts are “the most common litter piece” anyone sees.
I do not normally traverse hedges.
I make a note of the litter I see pretty much wherever I go...cigarette butts beats all else.
I can attest to the same around my house because of being at the end of a westerly wind corridor.
Pots is one of those blinded idiots who only sees what he wants to see and supports govt. intervention on causes that will benefit him personally. He is the worst kind of so called "conservative" and the typical patsy who the democrat party panders to.
My brief dialogue with this individual has convinced me that I might just as well be talking politics with one of the ignorant masses over at DU.........
In other words, the only way to deal with those A'holes is to ignore them........
My apologies, the hedges are only along the parking lot and church sides, I should have clarified that.
I also make note of the litter where I go, as I despise litter of all types. I have been known to put a person out of my car to pick up a cigarette butt tossed out the window. That is how much I despise litter. There is an ashtray in my car for a reason.
My property has 500 feet of road frontage on a rather busy road and I do a great deal of litter patrol on a regular basis. Cigarette butts are the least of what I pick up. In the space of a given week there are more butts in the coffee can I keep on my steps than there are in the ditch or road that runs along my property.
Apparently there are far more slobs who happen to smoke where you live than where I live.
I agree.
I thought universities were supposed to be the one place in America where all thoughts, expressions and activities were welcomed as part of the learning process.
Before the hysterical smoking bans, there were things called "ashtrays" where smokers could deposit their butts.
When certain kooks banned smoking, they also banned ashtrays.
Unintended consequences.
Ping! I wasn’t sure if you’d seen this or not.
We all agree that any littering is wrong and should be treated equally under the law. As a result, we do not need any additional laws. Instead, we just need enforcement of the current legislation.
Why anyone would want to target one type of litter over any other is a mystery to me. I think it is a good indicator of the “type” of conservativism being practiced.
I had seen it, but am actually getting worn out......
I’m about to barricade myself at my house and just ignore society in general.
The campus wide tobacco ban passed 407 to 241. Of course, this isn't the end of it. I was told that the way the bill? policy? proposal? was written most probably isn't the way that it's going to end up. So we were voting on one set of wording but that most probably is going to be changed, so why did we vote? Strange way to handle a vote, I'm thinking.
The bill? policy? proposal? was poorly written, in my opinion and I wrote the author of that policy? about it. Left a lot of loop holes and room for lawsuits, IMO. Very poorly done, IMO. I'm still in shock and awe over the way it reads. I think I could have sailed an aircraft carrier through it and I'm not a lawyer. Needless to say, he's upset if I'm any judge of the tone of an email.
Anyway, the President of our university now has the bill(?) and knowing how these things have been going, he'll probably okay it.
These kids don't have an idea of the rights they are signing away or letting slip away. Most of them are growing up to be good little sheeple.
Just yesterday I was reading where Massachussetts wants to weigh kids and do their body mass index then send the information home on their report cards.
How can these idiots brainwashed and unintelligent people not see the slippery slope?
I'm going to try to expedite my acquiring of my degree and get the heck out of the university. This is why I didn't go to college when I was younger, I knew I couldn't stand the liberals for very long. If I can just hold on a bit longer and take online courses, I think I can make it.
PA Professors and their unions were fighting the smoking bans there. I wonder how that turned out? A ruling was due in February or March?
For what it's worth, I've heard other freepers talking about moving to Ireland...my cousin's daughter just got back from a trip to Europe and she said Dublin was just as horrible the 2nd time around as the 1st time. Spain is supposed to be absolutely fantastaic though.
