You couldn’t be more WRONG. REPUTABLE infant formula is safe and nutritious.

“Frankly, you’d have to be nuts to use ANY powdered baby formula, or any kind of powdered milk.”

I know a little something about pumping contaminants out of ground water. Not an easy thing to accomplish.

Not to mention it is naturally occurring.

Still, that’s not something you want in your baby formula.

Score one for breast feeding.

This author's head would probably explode if he knew that babies, children and adults are receiving doses of benzene simply from breathing the air around them. Our children deserve better so someone should do something.

The NAS says 20 parts per billion perchlorate in drinking water is safe. The Department of Defense makes a case for 200 parts per billion being safe. If the amounts being found in the formula were more than 20 ppb, you can be sure the author would have included that information. He didn't. The chemicalphobes and toxic terrorists ignore this information for a reason.

Plutonium, an element, is indeed found in nature. Just not in a pure form.

Some of its ores are concentrated enough naturally to be harmful.

It is also found in breast milk.

Oh, just an honest mistake I'm sure. /sarcasm/

Does anyone doubt that we are already under attack? Contaminated dog food. Contaminated human food of various types. Now contaminated baby formula and dangerous sheet-rock. And I'm willing to bet it's just the tip of the ice berg.

If the Chinese contaminated products are an attack, they’re mostly attacking themselves.

International Formula Council (IFC) Reassures Parents about Perchlorate and the Safety of Infant Formula

* Friday April 3, 2009, 5:42 pm EDT

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/International-Formula-Council-prnews-14847906.html

ATLANTA, April 3 /PRNewswire/ —

IFC’s* position:

Although recent media attention has focused on the presence of trace levels of perchlorate in powdered infant formula, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have studied perchlorate extensively and have established safe reference levels that are appropriate for all consumers, including sensitive sub-populations like infants. Trace levels of perchlorate that have been detected in some infant formulas are far below those safe reference values. Health authorities continue to emphasize that infant formula is safe and the FDA “is not recommending that consumers of any age alter their diet or eating habits due to perchlorate.”

Perchlorate is not an ingredient in infant formula. Perchlorate can be present in the environment, drinking water, and the food supply chain, and thus trace levels may be found in infant formula and breast milk. The body of scientific evidence indicates that these trace levels do not pose a health risk.

As an industry, members of the IFC take all safety issues very seriously. Our research and development programs are targeted to produce the highest quality of infant formula products available. When new information becomes available on substances like perchlorate, we support bringing the information forward through the accepted process of scientific peer review and evaluation. This helps ensure that it is evaluated with consideration to existing science and that policies are driven by sound science.

Parents and health professionals can be assured infant formula is safe and nutritious. For parents concerned with the perchlorate levels in their drinking water supply, FDA recommends reconstituting infant formula with bottled water or water from a home treatment device certified for perchlorate removal.

Background:

Perchlorate occurs naturally and is more commonly found in certain geographic areas, such as the Southwestern United States. Perchlorates are found in the environment and in the food supply.

“I don’t think this is funny.

Our babies deserve better.”

Did you know that perchlorates exist in nature?

Well, isn’t the answer clear? Nature needs to be subject to the EPA, the FDA, perhaps also the Customs Agency. The next time, if there’s a hurricane on Bambi’s watch, Mother Nature can be thrown in jail, fined, stipped of her title and so forth.

Perchlorates are everywhere, and we already know it’s in groundwater, cow’s milk, and BREAST MILK all over the US. Why *wouldn’t* there be a bit of perchlorate in cow’s milk-based baby formula powder? Perchlorates are also used in airbags, road flares, and as a medication for hyperthyroidism, among many other things.
