Unless you’re a charletan, converting is generally a quiet private affair. There was this guy before named Stephen Dubner who tried to make his career writing about his conversion but I saw the entire affair as rather tasteless.

That he doesn’t want to talk about it is natural; it is however unusual not to wait till Easter, only a few weeks away. Perhaps that, too, was done to reduce the media noise.

Good for Newt.
Religion isn’t (or shouldn’t be, anyway), a public relations opportunity.

“So far, Gingrich has been conspicuously quiet about his conversion.”
Can one be “conspicuously quiet” in a normal civilized setting? (I'm excluding rallies for the Fuhrer of any era.). I think it absurd to describe someone as “conspicuously quiet” on a personal matter.

Well I certainly hope that he is better behaved as a Roman Catholic than he was as a Baptist. As a Baptist I always was embarrassed by his adultury and divorces - especially his repeat performance while President Clinton was doing his Monica thing. BTW - Mr. Clinton is an example of a BINO. Kinda like some of the Kennedys that are CINOs.

Perhaps Sarah Palin will see the error of her ways and swim the Tibur too! We can always hope, right?
Sarah Palin, a lovely woman already, would just cause our hearts to burst with gladness if she was seen caressing a rosary... And kneeling in prayer!

He probably went dark on the subject because a leftist on Twitter ripped him as the "thrice divorced, blah, blah..." However, he tweeted just an hour ago.

So far, Gingrich has been conspicuously quiet about his conversion. How can you be "conspicuously quiet"? Only if there is some jerk from US News who wants you to give him an interview. None of your beeswax, Gilgoff.

I am Catholic, but perhaps someone could clarify Church Law for me. I thought that if a Catholic gets divorced (or maybe gets divorced and then remarried), that they incur automatic excommunication. If this is the case, how is it that Newt is allowed to become Catholic?? If I recall correctly he is divorced and remarried. If living in that state would cause someone who is already Catholic to be excommunicated, shouldn't it also prevent a non-Catholic from being able to enter the Church (unless they first obtain an annulment)??
I am a bit dodgy on some of the finer details of Church Law in this area, so I thought this would be an opportune time to ask.
