HP - High Price (of course, the HP-50G is quite the gizmo)!

TI - Technically Inferior - keys were always "tinny" to the touch.

You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin’ laser beams attached to their heads! Now evidently my cycloptic colleague informs me that that cannot be done. Ah, would you remind me what I pay you people for, honestly? Throw me a bone here!

Agreed!

I still have my HP-35 and HP-65 (each still works - Li battery packs). Mainstay is awesome and wonderful HP-50G - even gives change for the coffee machine.

Of, course, when the batteries are weak - my Keuffel & Esser, Pickett, Aristo, Faber-Castell, or Concise ... are a treat to use. If really bored the log tables (Abramowitz & Stegun Handbook, NBS No. 55, circa 1964, for $6.50 post-paid) or CRC Handbook makes the coffee even more enjoyable.

As Dr. Hammer said, the reason for computing is not numbers, it is insight!

Now, where the &$%*^@ is that coffee muff??

From years ago ... freshmsn Dynamics class, final examination.

Mapping equations for frames of reference:

Carrier's deck, three-dimensional coordinates - with pitch, roll, and yaw vectors plus associated speeds.

Landing aircraft, speed and rate of descent provided, again three-dimensional coordinates (EXPLICITLY NOT THE SAME AS CARRIER), and with pitch, roll and yaw vectors, landing on said carrier.

Moving across carrier deck is a cockroach, coordinate system same as carrier's, starting position is given along with track across deck with average speed.

Does aircraft hit (kill) cockroach upon landing on carrier's deck?

I will never forget that final examination.

“This laser technology has the potential to revolutionize our energy future,” California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said during a tour last year of the stadium-sized NIF facility. “If successful, this new endeavor could generate thousands of megawatts of carbon-free nuclear power but without the drawbacks of conventional nuclear plants. This type of innovation is why we are a world leader in science, technology and clean energy, and I could not be prouder that this work is happening right here in California.”

What a steaming pile. Nobody is expecting this to have any impact on generating electricity from nuclear fusion.
