Diana died because she wasn’t wearing a seat belt. Of the 4 in the car she died in the one who was wearing a seat belt survived. The 3 who didn’t died.

I guess I”m not up to date then. Last Tuesday I read the following:

The hospital tells TMZ Richardson is sedated and suffering from brain swelling — but, contrary to some reports, is not brain dead. We can’t confirm the accuracy of the hospital’s statements, or the other reports circulating the web — fact is, right now we just don’t know.

I assumed they took her out of Canada to try and get the better Dr’s.

"For conservatives to blame Canada's system is the equivalent of Liberals blaming everything on Bush.

I'm not a fan of Canada's health care system, but I have to agree 100%.

I would add, one reason our recreational ski areas are so much more capable when it comes to medical care is the blood-sucking animals known in this country as pesonal injury lawyers.

The ski areas are so gun-shy about lawsuits, they have some of the best medical techs in the country. And, if there's not a county or state medical helicopter available, the resort will have a contract helicopter available for such emergencies. It's one of the few time our obscene tort laws actually does some good.

PRINCESS DIANA died because of Britain's Health Care System.

Another well informed poster, sort of takes away from what ever else you said.

I assumed the exact same thing you did and even posted as such. But, then I heard that she was being taken to Lennox Hill, and I knew immediately it was over, regardless what the media was reporting.

If you've got ENT problems (Manhattan Eye Clinic is at Lennox), or cardiovascular problems or have a high-risk pregnancy, you go to Lennox. But, if you've got brain or spinal problmes, Lennox is not on the list.

Blame game. An American preoccupation to find who to sue. Alas it was the blow to the head that killed her. A helmet may have prevented it but she refused one so we will never know. But immediate medical attention by Dr. Gupta and a full emergency team and equipment was unlikely to save her. She took a blow to the head. Her brain swelled. She died.

One, the answer in this case is no. In many other examples yes.

Supposedly the Canadians sent an ambulance to the ski resort slopes and she turned it down.

I think it was a tragic chain of events. She probably fell down, hit her head but not that hard. It was probably a minor accident and she brushed it off.

She probably thought she was fine. She may have had some medical issue where a minor accident would set it off. Very sad.

Chuck_the_tv_out said, “She would have had a chance in America with the latest technology.”

If the patient refuses treatment, more than once that’s it, end of debate.

Jim Henson died primarily because of a half assed diagnosis from an American doctor in North Carolina. For every failure of Canadian health care, I sure there is an American example.

Although many have correctly pointed out that she initailly refused to go to the hospital, that does not absolve the system. It is the norm that people who have a seemingly minor medical problem do not seek medical attention. She did not appear to be seriously injured, and was awake and conscious. When the ambulance returned to her room 2 hours later, she was still awake and talking. She discussed not goin to the ER, but the hotel manager and EMS personnel convinced her to go.

My concern is that she was awake and talking when she finally was transported to the ER, but still died, with systematic delays in care being apparent. The head of trauma at McGill, one the the best medical schools in Canada, voiced similar concerns. A patient with an epidural hematoma who is conscious at the time of transport by EMS should almost always have a good outcome.

Britain’s health care system had nothing to do with Diana’s death, because she was in France. However,I agree that the Windsors had their fingerprints on it somehow

“That’s why they rushed her to the best NY Hospital.”

According to reports, she was already brain dead before she was transported to the NY hospital. Her family wanted her brought to NY so they could all say goodbye.

I’m a physician. When I heard that someone turned the EMTs away initially, I thought OMG, at least she would have had a chance if they had moved even by an ambulance. Hours later she was doomed.

I’m sure there is a law suit pending out there, but against whom? The doctors who finally got her in her closing moments? The ski resort who didn’t have a helicopter.

YES, this is exactly the kind of medical care you can expect under a social medical care system.
