It took the shot heard round the world in Boston...
Not meaning to be patronizing, but the shot heard round the world was in Lexington.
The Boston incident is called the Boston Massacre.

See this too, the 9th paragraph down: http://business.intuit.com/article/george-washington-and-the-slavery-issue

I remember reading about it in The Indispensible Man (great read, btw), but that was over 25 years ago, and my mind isn’t what it used to be! :)

While I agree wholeheartedly with these sentiments, if one were to show up at our capitol building with a gun, one would be in jail so fast one's head would spin. How do y'all get inside your capitol with guns???

That's why such actions need to be mass demonstrations. If you show up at your state capitol armed it will be of no consequence for the powers-that-be to send you off to jail and charge you with whatever they want and then paint you as a nut in the media.

But picture 25,000 well armed and well-regulated people showing up at your state capitol and now you have a different matter altogether. If the police start trying to arrest some of these armed citizens then they will do so at their own peril and considering that police don't do such things unless the odds are 10:1 in their favor it won't happen. They'll sit back and watch and maintain order (as they should) but there won't be any arrests or attempts to disarm people for fear of inciting an insurrection that would surely go poorly for them.

In short, it would logically be a peaceful demonstration by lawfully armed citizens.

And it would be beautiful to see 25,000 people positively assert their rights to petition redress and to do while armed as part of the militia.

We have many, many public employees in my state. Just our luck 25,001 state troopers will show up to greet us! Yow!

I believe goals could be achieved if 25,000 angry citizens showed up, unarmed, at our capitol and threatened to rip out the throats of liberal representatives unless they resigned. Heck, bring a noose along.

Guns are our FINAL power in protecting our democracy. There was a US Court of Appeals case written by a judge of Eastern European decent (I can't think of the cite or style at the moment) who delcared that guns were our last bastion ofdefense. Let's use the Gandhi method, or, the Tutu method first. I think we can win. They didn't use guns in Selma and Rosa Parks didn't whip out an Uzi that day. They got what they needed because they showed up en mass and scared the tar out of the elected officials. Save the guns for last.
