He may well have. He inherited a form of insanity that has been brewing since FDR decided that it was a good idea to redistribute wealth. Yawn... So whats new?

President Reagan inherited a much worse mess that started with Kennedy, and had several years to develop before Carter started his depression.

Reminds me of an old Soviet era joke. Just before he dies, Stalin calls Khrushchev to his bedside and hands him two envelopes marked #1 and #2. Khrushchev looks puzzled and asks Stalin to explain. Old Joe tells him that when things get really bad, open envelope #1 and follow the directions. It will buy him some time. Then when things get worse, he should open envelope #2 and follow those directions.
Khrushchev thanks him and keeps the envelopes until his first major crisis some years later. He opens envelope #1 and it says "Blame everything on me. The masses will understand and forgive you for awhile." Khrushchev follows the advice and it works as promised, for awhile.
But things get so bad that he reached for envelope #2. The directions are: "Prepare two envelopes for your successor just as I did for you."

Yes, that appears to be his ONLY answer....very disappointing testimony, if one is sincerely trying to figure out what this Admin is trying to accomplish with all the spending packages.
