I personally hate the breed, and they should be gotten rid of, BUT, it is not the government’s place to tell a citizen what we can or cannot own.

First they came for the Pit-Bulls, but I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Pit-Bull.

Wouldn’t this put pit bulls on the endangered species list?
Or do things like that simply not apply to the politically incorrect?

I’m all for controlling dangerous dogs, whatever breed they happen to be, but this throws the baby out with the bathwater and sucks out its brains to boot. Political leaders fall and civil wars start over “little things” like this.

Instead of going after responsible people who own pitbulls, and many in both rural and urban areas keep them to deter crime, let’s see them go down into the “hood” of big cities and take them, that should be good.

We're just going through a nasty situation involving a mastiff, German Shepherd and another kind of dog that attacked and mauled a kid, mother doesn't have a count of the stitches, face and finger almost torn off, not one of the better neighborhoods. Caller said a police car drove right on by, don't know if that is true but should be looked into. So pit bulls aren't the only problem. Kid was walking home from school talking to his mom on his cell, and it went dead, doesn't sound like he provoked the dogs but they got over their fence somehow.
If they're going to ban pit bulls, cull out the dangerous ones, maybe limit the number a person can own, and grandfather them out. That would be more fair than euthanizing.
Does anybody seriously think some owners whose pit bulls have never hurt anybody will turn their dog over for this? I think they will leave the state before they would do that, if they can. I think that's why some are just releasing them out somewhere rather than taking them to a shelter where they may not find new homes. Some people have to give up their pets because of the economy, and Katrina pets were tragic.
I don't happen to like pit bulls but only because I found out how dangerous they can be, tend to pet them if I don't know what they are and acting friendly like any other dog.

Yes, I’ve known instances where the cops have just shot a Chow, a Rottweiller, a German shepherd, and actually they’ll shoot any family dog if they feel like it. It’s a slippery slope and as usual, you give them an inch and pretty soon it’ll be like China, telling you to kill all your dogs.

Muslims are more dangerous. Too bad we can’t have a bill for them.

I was surprised and sadden to see that Sen Bruce Starr is a Republican, probably a RINO.
This piece of legislation is both stupid and immoral. Only a complete idiot could come up with something so stupid. If there are members of Mr. Starr's district on FR, I would urge you to work for his defeat.
I have a little experience with Pit Bulls. I don't own them and I wouldn't. I own Labrador Retrievers.
What needs to happen with Pits is for them to be licensed as an "exotic" animal. Those who wish to own a Pit Bull would need a special license and a tag. The conditions of ownership are as follows:
1. An animal control officer would inspect your facilities.
2. Criminal Background Check- No animal cruelty charges for dogfighting.
3. Proof of Insurance for Liability.
4. Demonstrate experience with the breed.
If all the conditions are satisfied then a person can own a Pit Bull. These rules would keep the gang bangers and other assorted garbage from being able to own a Pit Bull- at least legally. If any complaints are filed then that person must answer to animal control and the dog could be taken away. If you are caught with a Pit Bull without this special tags then serious penalities could then result. This is a far better proposal that what this lunatic Senator from Oregon proposes.

Well, they want to euthanize old people in Oregon, so why not dogs?

If you like breathing keep your g*dd*mned hands off my dogs and their reproductive organs.
