I returned to my dorm from an evening class to find my classmates staring in stunned silence at the television as the election returns were broadcast.

How I hope it can happen again. But now that the 60s generation is in power, it's going to take a miracle. The equivalent of our side taking to the streets like they did then.

The ‘60’s generation”—or, as David Horowitz calls it, “the Destructive Generation”—began to take over Oxy in the mid -’60’s, just before I arrived. As a freshman, I was able to take the year-long “History of Civilization” course before it was abolished the next year and replaced by a series of electives. Most of these were good courses, although a number of them dealt with the subject of revolution, including one entitled “Fidel Castro’s Revolutionary Socialism.” Nonetheless, the ‘60’s crowd was only beginning to make inroads into the faculty, so I was able to get a good education.
