At a time when she is still dealing with the deaths in her family, she had the courage and grace to appear and sing, pre-recorded or not.

The look on her face was not one of.."it's about me"...but one of facing the reality that she is still a human being with tears to shed and heartache.

Her voice is beautiful, and she interpreted the National Anthem a lot LESS than a lot of others in the past.

The National Anthem is about courage, conviction, and steadfastness, it reminds all of us that we share values not found anywhere else on this little rock.

Let me join in your fogeyness.. I too miss the traditional Marching band half-times, and hate that during College games the Half-times are never seen , and talking heads babble, and commercials run rampant.

The pathetic thing is, that it takes heck of a lot more talent to play it straight.

Yes, I agree.

I've learned over the years that John Q. Public doesn't have a particularly discerning ear nor taste in music for that matter. Music and television procuders are well aware of this too.

Which is no criticism of Ms. Hudson's vocal abilities, btw.

So you didn’t watch last year’s super bowl either.

Or the Giants Greenbay game?

Why not just admit you’re just not that into football.

She didn’t sing. She flapped her mouth while a previously recorded, endless version of the national anthem played on the PA system.

I got up when it was obvious that Hill's version was going to suck. I could hear the two of them in the back ground, but I wasn't listening intently. All I can say is that I went into the kitchen and cooked a turkey...when I came back, Hudson was still singing.

There are some really gruntled folks on here today.

(well, nearly every day)

She has a beautiful voice.

She suffered an unspeakable tragedy, and I wish her well.

OTOH, Martina McBride walked out on that field in Pittsburg, in front of a national TV audience and 80,000 people, with nothing but a pitch pipe, and belted it out live. That is a whole ‘nuther level of talent, right there...

The National Anthem was presented with respect and given a great performance at a major American Sports event, what the heck is your personal problem?

you said it, it was a performance. the national anthem is not a pop/ r&b piece to be interpreted as you please, and it is not to be "performed" as a display of talent. any altering, or using for personal gain is an insult to the anthem, the flag and the country.
how would you like it if a death metal band arranged it in their style of music? maybe you'd like a gansta could rap it?
no thanks. IMO these people that "jazz" it up are just as bad as roseanne in insulting the anthem.

Actually, my complaint about American Idolization comes my desire to not have every song sung in a completely overwrought, hey-I’m-Barbara-Streisand, shreiking in 5 octaves manner. Simplification reveals genuine talent.

Prerecording the song meant that the engineers electronically enhanced her voice. They used a lot of filters to add resonance and depth, and they spliced in the best of several takes to make her sound perfect. For a “performance” like Hudson’s, the sound engineers should also get the kudos.

She was great. And artist, a singer, makes every song about herself and the way she sings it.

She is standing there, spotlight on her, singing and you complain she is drawing attention to herself.

Dude that was the point.

“So what if she didn’t actually sing it and she lip-sync’d?”

So why not just play a tape of the Marine Corps Band playing the national anthem? If you don't have the talent to stand and sing a song, you shouldn't be on such a large stage.

The same goes for Faith Hill. Shame on her.

Springsteen may be a lefty loon, but at least he had the grapes to perform live.

Now for the trend of never-ending, artistic interpretations of the national anthem. Enough already. While Hudson's version was far less egregious than some, she didn't even follow the tune.

Any song is a vehicle for artistic interpretation. That is what artists do.

Who told you that the song was written for any particular kind of interpretation.
