I’m #11.
(Really thought I could make the top 10.)

Interesting that NY/NJ occupy the top 16 slots. Finally found my county at #493. :)

Property taxes (which the Brits accurately refer to as “rent”) should be unConstitutional because they effectively deny ownership of property. You don’t really own your property so long as the government can come along and seize it for non-payment of your rent. You’re just a tenant on government owned land is all you are.

Only #42 on the list, but our local pols are trying extra hard to move us up.
On the other hand, we're #2 when it comes to "Taxes as % of Home Value."

Couldn’t find Teller County. It would have to rank very low.

Woohoo! I made number 2. Got to try harder. Who’s John Galt again?

Coming in at #158 will inspire multnomah county Oregon(Portland)commissioners to strive harder to break into that coveted top 10.

Thanks for the link. Given that New York and New Jersey and Illinois rank so high in the list, I would say that government corruption does make people pay and pay and pay...my state is right up there and I understand that my current governor is knee deep in the pay to play game.
To: Golddigger3
OK, my county is at #253. My household income and home valuation are very near the median, but my property taxes are way higher than the median. To whom should I protest?

Taxing property is a double evil. First it removes any notion that one really property. It is little wonder that areas of high concentration of liberals have high property taxes, liberals believe that the government owns it all anyway. Communism is the removal of private ownership property taxes are just a kinder gentler form of communism (don't pay your property tax rent and see who really owns the property). The second great evil of property tax it the proceeds are predominantly used to fund government schools, where children are taught to obey the government worker, (teacher) and become socialist cogs in the great machinery of the state. The old double whammy!

Agree 100%. However when you ask the tax people in the town why are you increasing our property taxes they give the typical answer: Schools and Police.

Interesting. The top 50 are all in blue states. I would guess those states have income taxes, too.
My county is in the 400’s, and we don’t have an income tax, either. Nice. Bet our schools are better than most in the top 50, too.
