THE WORD to Republicans is...NEVER.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER TRUST ANYTHING A DEMOCRAT SAYS.
Never believe anything a Democrat says. Never negotiate with a Democrat ever. You the Republican will be the fool, and we the citizens the victims of your foolishness.
HOLD THE LINE ON NO TAXES PERIOD.
Don't fall for this trap GOP!!!
Don’t do it. The Democrats will renege on any promises to cut spending as soon as the ink is dry. They did it to Ronald Regan and they will do it again.
What you said.
Particularly so during a recession. We were overtaxed before; raising taxes in a recession is absolute insanity.
Cut government spending drastically.
I am not from California, but if the Repubs cave on this issue they get exactly what they deserve. The Demos are effectively turning this into the Repubs issue. How about turning the tables and playing offense. Start with consistently presenting the idea that the root of this problem is the complete inability of Demos to live within their means. The Demos are holding out for an Obamanation bailout and Repubs caving.
We shall see.
schu
Ronald Reagan has already tried this one. They lie!!!
GOP never learns. You cannot play nice with Dems/Libs. They hate your friggin guts and will do anything to decieve you to get or keep power!
They should consult with George H.W. Bush first, to learn about Demoncrat promises.
Never take advice from the opposition. The national party has been punished because they haven't been fiscally conservative and have come across as intrusive puritans. There are many Republicans/faux conservatives, even here on FR, who support totalitarian police state power, intrusion into the lives of adults for things that only affect an individual and are anti-science. The general public notices this and for obvious reasons want no part of it.
The American people are fiscally conservative, social libertarian, detest abortion, and not anti-intellectual. The present form of the GOP is not this way.
The real problem with this plan is that even if it were enacted, the unions, Meathead and the rest of that ilk would be right back with propositions at the next election to undo it.
The fiscal benefits of spending caps so far outweigh the negatives of the tax increases that any prudent and fiscally responsible person would jump at this. Assuming of course you can make it stick and therein lies the problem. I’d say it’s the Dems who might fall into the trap.
There, I edited for completeness.
The GOP is dead. California is on life support. Public employee unions run the State. LA is a third-world municipality.
And when all the businesses and workers leave this awful state, who’s gonna pay those taxes?
I swear these guys must own stock in U-Haul.
If they want to cave and agree to more taxes, let them do this...
No one who is currently paying taxes pays one thin dime more.
But for all of those not paying any taxes, they will now pay 5%. This would include those whose entire income is derived from welfare. Maybe if they saw 5% coming out of their checks each month, they would quit voting for Democrats.
