Its both. It covers the entire general comm band as a receiver, but you can also use it as a panoramic adapter for any front end from radar to sonar.

I don't think you understood me. You don't need a wire in a tree to listen, and I've never been a Ham. All you need to listen is the radio.

No. Broadband over powerlines could disrupt RF signals but That has met with enough resistance that I think the idea is dead.
That's good. While the Internet in many ways has rendered listening to short wave "obsolete," it certainly doesn't need to be made technically impossible.

There is a battle between the two as of present.
I love the internet, but the shortwave and digital shortwave predate it...and in a real pinch? The shortwave is gonna win for communication.
You can drop an atom bomb and some guy with a tube set and a generator will be online,
