Did I ever share with you that while not a GWB supporter in 2000 (both in the primary and general election, particularly in the primary), but then supportive once he won the thing and the Dems tried to steal it from him in Florida (Nov-Dec 2000 time frame), and then again in 2004, I actually did support him, walking some precincts when on a stateside trip and also contributed $$$ and was very strong on this forum (if you go to the Oct/Nov. 2004 archives one will clearly see, despite the laughable assertion I must be "from D.U."!) in support of GWB and trying to expose Kerry, particuarly on Swiftboats and Dan Rather on Typogate.

As his Administration comes to a close, I think there is no shortage of Conservatives on FR and in the wider world who supported GWB one or maybe both times, but were abjectly disappointed as the months and years went on, for a number of mutiple reasons on specific policy (not personality, God bless the man) and administration factors. I am sorry if there are thin skinned people who cannot accept that this phenomenon is in fact even possible, but it is.

We’ll likely feel more free and unencumbered to discuss him in more critical terms after next week. Unfortunately by then, we’ll have bigger fish to fry. :-\

My half-sister’s best friend was their nominee in 1996. :-\

That is exactly what I'm talking about herr Fieldmarshall, if anyone were to research my posts on FR (good luck with that, lol), they would discover that I was among the most partisan supporters of GWB and I bent over backwards to give that joker the benefit of the doubt.

But let's face reality here: with 6 days left in his Administration, he's only been able to take out 1/3rd of that noxious ‘Axis of Evil’ he was warning us all about 7 years ago, Iran is MORE dangerous than it was even in the run up to the 2004 election, North Korea is still just as unstable and as much of a menace so far as nuclear proliferation is concerned as before those grand ‘Six Party Talks’ started.

And you correctly identify the colossal failure of this Administration when it comes to securing our borders. Can anyone explain to me the logic of creating a massive Department of Homeland Security that has it's governmental snoot up our collective asses (can I still use that word?), confiscating computers and electronic gear at border crossings without due process, without any accountability, without any restrictions whatsoever, but our southern border continues to leak illegals and contraband like a sieve?

And it's all because GWB cast his lot with the open borders crowd, his first trip as President was to Mexico (and we can only conclude that was due to his acquiescence to Vincente Fox and his agenda) GWB has spent money like a drunken sailor, his veto pen is virtually in brand new factory condition, he can pass it on to 0bama-lama-ding-dong as 'new' and 'The One' will never know the difference. GWB's only domestic successes were tax cuts, but those cuts needed fiscal responsibility at the executive level, and Bush provided NONE. He basically let the Congress spend whatever the Hell it wanted to, and it did, under both GOP *and* 'Rat control. All GWB did was sign off on the spending bills.

So was this eight years of Bush better than what we might have had with eight years of Gore? Or four years of Kerry?

Most likely. However unlike Ronald Reagan, Bush leaves office with way too much unfinished business, business that could have been wrapped up a long time ago.

History is not going to be kind, despite the Bots fondest beliefs.

"For that, I am profoundly disappointed in him."

And that phrase can be applied to hundreds of things here at home. He did well on foreign policy, but at this point, anyone that is not profoundly disappointed in GWB has to be profoundly derranged.

I supported him in both elections to the max, and I still have the stickers on my vehicles that say "I Proudly Stand With President George W. Bush." - I've wanted to take them off for over two years, but every time that I contemplate it, it makes me sick to my stomach. He could have done so much here at home, but he didn't.

Wise words FRiend. A shame that some so-called 'conservatives' will never be able to acknowledge the truth of what you've said.

Thanks to all the posters who expressed their opinions including Bush supporters (except the whiners who went running to the mods-you know who you are) and made this a very interesting thread.

That's a fact, and their headquarters are in a house next door to the one that I lived in in the early 60s, on Sharp Avenue in Walnut Creek. Sick!

You have yourself a good night FRiend, and just one question for you if you don't mind?

In your opinion, is the phrase "pound sand" vulgar or not?

Just wondering. ;)

Oh believe me, I will personally be in full-court-press-against-Obama-mode, come 20 January if not sooner! ;-)

He is liable to continue, if not greatly worsen, the Bush Open Borders disaster in the coming months and years ;-(

Ironic isn't it? Our current President adopts the slogan of a Communist-front organization (i.e. "Peace and Freedom"), and his successor uses a slogan not much different, as in "Hope and Change"?

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Yup, all good points. It may literally turn out that he may have been in over his head on too many fronts. And I’ll say this, too, Rove was NOT a magnificent bastard. He was a spectacular dud for whom the Democrats accused of being some maniacal genius. Yeah, the genius behind keeping senile RINOs and establishment types in Congress to the point the rodents could pick ‘em off like a turkey shoot. Then, of course, with his successor, he’ll make Dubya look like Washington. Hell, he may make Carter or Looter Guy look like Washington...

Walnut Creek ? Damn. And that used to be such a respectable area, too. My half-sis and her friend all live in Berkeley.

I suppose ‘bastid’ is quite vulgar. I hope no innocent children were up at 12:34 in the morning on an adult website...

It is interesting to note that further censorship apparantly occured when somebody removed all critical keywords attached to this thread (and kept glowing adjectives and superlatives toward the Prez; one can see even now), even though this is just a straight news story with opinions coming down on one side or another [and not a protected 'Daily Dose' or "Day in the Life' personality thread) in open, unfettered debate. Odd that should happen?
