There are MANY reasons why there are single moms/parents, some of those reasons are selfish, unneccessary reasons...there are other reasons, that are NOT selfish and NOT at all unnecessary!!!

I think you're missing the main point here. It's not that there should never be any single mothers, ever, its just that single motherhood is a very undesirable household for raising kids, and so it should be avoided whenever possible. The point that I think Ann was making is that single motherhood has been glorified and glamorized to the point that women are choosing to be single mothers, either by having a child out of wedlock, or by leaving their husbands for relatively frivolous reasons, and it has become a tenet of political correctness that you cannot criticize these women for that choice, or for any bad judgment on their parts which may have led to being a single mom.

In my opinion, a family needs a mother and a father, and any responsible parent should be willing to make sacrifices for the welfare of their children. That includes women remaining in marriages where they're "just not in love anymore", at least until the kids are grown. Mothers are invaluable for the first 10 or so years of a child's life, but after that, it is the father who is the most valuable parent. A boy without a father after that age is much more likely to be a criminal, and a girl without a father after that age is much more likely to be a slut. Any woman who would deliberately choose to subject her kids to those odds for her own convenience or sense of fulfillment is a selfish witch. Exceptions are made, of course, for a physically abusive father and other such circumstances. And, of course, any father who would willingly abandon his kids is a selfish bastard.
