You and I have a very different idea of the meaning of substance. No she isn't a university professor but if she was, then she would be a liberal. If you have a politician that meets your criteria and is electable to.. support em.. and quit whining about what would be perfect. The perfect is the enemy of the good and the effective.
Otherwise get a life. Sarah is as close to a "Rock Star" that the Republican party has come up with in 20 years and she doesn't make it for you, you are hopeless.
I really need to check but my guess is that you are Huckabee supporter, but that is a wild guess. Huck blew it in this last election, he plays for keeps long after winning isn't possible and there are bad feelings to last for a generation about his behavior.
Romney was the essence of grace, and he was betrayed by circumstances and Huckabee was completely effective at making him unelectable. Republican primaries are often that way, we kill each other in the primary and the bloody hulk left standing is expected to win the General.
These battles are so distructive it can take years to recover. Ohio is in such a cycle. Ken Blackwell split the Ohio Republican party in his run for Governor, and then didn't have the funds left or the organization to rebuild in time for the General.
Worse, when he lost, the old guard he defeated tried to re-assert control leaving the people who double lost the primary and the general in place. Ohio is still trying to recover.
The Conservative electorate is not effective at insisting that no double standard applies. Instead, we offer this as a selling point, that we are not as evil and corrupt as the Dems. But, this leaves evil and corrupt Dems to use money and political power to corrupt all. No double standard. Hound the corrupt bastards out.. that needs to be the call.. and it is a target rich environment.
If MSM is dying for not being able to tell the truth, why isn't a competitor springing up like FOX to make the money MSM is turning away?
Nevertheless, finding MSM gushable Republicans requires you to put forward Democrats in Republican clothes. Until the news room judges based on facts rather than their own political aspirations there is no Republican articulate and clean enough to meet their impossibly high standard.

By this standard, Al Gore would be a man of great substance due to his writings on the myth of global warming. I don't disagree that she needs to get her ideas out to the general public in an articulate manner, but the unit of measure of "substance" isn't merely being a published author.
Also, consider that many of her articulations on significant subjects will never see the light of day, given our media's leftist tilt.

For the record, I was initially a Fred supporter, and after he dropped out I sent money to Romney. I had hoped that Romney could peel away some of the "intellectual elites" that Limbaugh hates so much away from the Dems.
As for the Professor comment, Reagan certainly wasn't a college professor. He went to a lower tier college and received marginal grades, much like Palin. But here's the difference, Reagan was without question a deep, deep thinker that incubated ideas on a variety topical issues. He matured and refined those ideas and communicated them to the conservative intelligentsia, the press and the public using a number of different mediums. In short, he had been thinking about and working on becoming President of the United States for a very long time.
Palin was a gimmick pick who wasn't qualified then or now.
I want the Republicans to pick a candidate that has spent considerable time thinking about and formulating ideas to solve the countries most complicated problems. I want our next nominee to be able to sit for an interview with toughest of interrogators and be able to answer the questions in a clear, concise, informed and winning style.
These are not qualities that should be hard to muster for the leader of the free world.
But the media are free to write about anything. They have all colluded and chosen not to even TOUCH upon the subject, for example, of what would happen if a President-elect had actually never proven his eligibility. They won't even put a human interest column in about it.
Palin has lived a life that is the stuff of Hollywood movies. It is absurd to ask for more. She has "True Grit" and a clear idea of how the government should serve the people.
Fred was amazingly articulate, but not a trench fighter, not willing to do what it takes.
I was a big Romney supporter as well, but he is still radioactive from Huckabee's scourging and salting of the earth. Nothing could and can be done to "fix" this.
Sarah is the real deal though. I know this because I was with the Church ladies who came back to the trenches to support her. I know from the fire she created in our County operations with volunteers massing to get out the vote. I know she is the real deal because every district she visited she pushed the Congressional Candidate over the top. I know she is the real deal because, I researched her before she was nominated. But, I had no idea who she was until she was nominated. McCain's handlers didn't have a clue what to do with her because the party wanted her as the nominee. But, frankly, two months on the national stage is too short. Almost every word that came out of Biden's mouth was a misstatement, a gaffe or an outright lie in the debate, at it took 24 hours for the press to catch up, but he sounded convincing doing it. He has made his career lying convincingly. This is not what Conservatives want. Sarah is also a learner. And if she has what it takes, you will see her do as she has done in the past, speak over the heads of the insiders and get right to the hearts of common people.
Its a special talent, and she has done this over and over.

Bardot’s callous, hateful remarks on Palin and hunters told me enough about her.
The only unqualified aspect in Palin's repertoire was that lame, RINO running mate of hers.
William Jefferson does`nt make the list, but Palin does. Figures.
I am open for debate and disagreement. Its just that I have found that if you disagree that SP is the next coming of Reagan, I get skewered—called names, and accused of being a liberal communist.
I just cannot fathom how the woman is as popular as she is in these quarters.

I believe you are exactly correct in your assessment. Look what the media did to George Allen and Rick Santorum. And whether anyone wants to argue he ran a bad campaign, they did the same to Fred Thompson. However, the general population seems to be too insipid to pick up on it.
