The only people who are losing their shirts are the ones who lived beyond their means.

And they'll be more than happy to pull ours off our backs as they go down.

They will die trying to yank my shirt off.

Unfortunatly so. With a bit of cleverness we’ll be able to do well, we just have to get out and stay out of the main fray and quietly keep and build our savings.

You and I wish. They’ll write a few sentences in Washington, your shirt will be theirs, and we’ll all be praying for Ted Kennedy.

So they are as sick of eating squirrel as I am.... I suppose there are various levels of financial Armageddon.

I'm not crying for them.

How much of the economic growth was due to the real estate bubble and over extending credit by the banks and financial institutions? What would normal growth have been?

Millions of folks with IRA s and 401(k)s got hurt really badly. Grandmas. People saving for their own retirements and not depending on the government to fund Social Security. Parents saving for their kids college. Some of this may come back; some perhaps not. Poof. Gone. Years of saving and investing in our own future . . . gone. That, my friend, is a major confidence crisis.

For years, financial freedon was to work hard, stay within financial means, save a percentage of income for retirement, own a piece of the American dream by buying a home, and put the kids through college. That equation has changed in the past few months - the trust is gone. The old truths are not so true right now. We are all the worse for it.

Nothing to worry about. What with Hussein in the White House, we’ll all be millionaires in a couple of weeks. A month at the outside. Merry f****** Christmas!

Good point.

If I might add though, how these perpetual adolescents that are now in control respond to the economic crisis will affect long term planning. For example, if trade barriers are erected expect a chronic recession. Most people don't realize that 40% of our economy is exports. Also, if the economic stimulus is govt make works projects don't expect a big recovery these types of programs were discredited during the depression. Lastly, if the "card check" unionization becomes law don't plan on long term growth. All that will do is serve as a factor in capital moving out not into our country.

Merry Christmas!

Barney Frank has certainly done enough wrong that having someone else in his place representing us would be one small starting goal for how to fix things.

It was not until after 2000 that I started to get ahead in life and have a safe secure home for my family, our home is paid for, we have fairly new vehicles which are also paid for from well paying jobs, we have lots of creature comforts like widescreen Tvs, a hot tub and other items like collectibles.

And all of it was during the last 8 years.

Question is, whats in store for me in the next 8 years, a second mortgage, a lesser paying job, selling off my collections of anything of value?

Am I now forced to sell off what I have worked so hard for to buy food and pay utility bills? I hope not, i would rather fight to keep my dream alive, if I must I will fight for a better life.

And by all indications the future in store is pretty grim, especially with a president that feels America should all be bare peasants that have no powers, no will to challenge him and no creative longing of a better life.

The only way we can rebuild our financial confidence is the change the tax laws so it encourages the practice of saving and investing--namely the FairTax. It's the only way to get us out of the debt treadmill that got us into trouble in the first place.
