Sorry Ted, The NYT has always been this way and characters like Tamm have always been out there, both happy to do their worst, if they know they will be allowed to get away with it.

If anyone is to blame it is our noblesse oblige, gentleman dilletante, “new tone”, turn-the-other-cheek, kick-me sign wearing, “thank you sir, may I have another”, President George W. Bush.

If you don’t deal sharply with people who leak AND their aiders and abettors, if you don’t throw the book at traitors and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law, you are guaranteed to have more and more of them, getting ever bolder and more egregious.

It’s as simple as that—the fish rots from the head.

If I was Obama, one of my first official actions on taking office would be to order up this guy’s scalp, along with a holiday assortment of NYT reporters’ and editors’ cullions. If only to make the proactive point that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

Why wait for the same gang to leak on him, after all?

How about getting the NY Treason Times for its collusion?

Exactly my thoughts... The NY Slimes gleefully prints the leaked information of ongoing national security operations, but decries the non-leak about a non-undercover low level worker at the CIA, Valerie Plame. They carry on about Plame as if this is the greatest intelligence leak in the history of the USA.

It's truly mind-bending.

The Bush Justice Department is a dismal failure when it comes to prosecuting national security leakers.

A huge part of the problem is that Bush didn't clean house when he took office, and many who were tasked with implementing his policies at the CIA, State Dept, and Justice, not only disagreed with those policies, but they actively did what they could to make them fail.

You can bet that Obama's not going to make the same mistake.
