So you can’t find any good schuls or Orthodox schools to give money too?

While there are certainly some good ones out there, I've found that most use their funds for things less urgent than what I'm hoping to help battle. Some of the groups that I do give to include ministries that operate homeless shelters for families, and a part of "the deal" is job training. I also give to Harvesters, and there's been a pretty big need for that. I will give something in memory of the Rabbi and his wife who were tortured and assassinated in Mumbai to the local Chabad House as well, but it will be a minor amount. I also give to a local battered women shelter, as well as a group known as "Children of the Night," which is a national organization that tries to help get young girls out of prostitution.

After seeing how all the synagogues spend their money around here, I place them at a pretty low priority, though I do donate to a local synagogue in honor of my mother's and father's yahrzeit.

AXA SA French insurance giant $136,940,000
Exposure is well below 100 million euros.

Got to hand it to the French. Smug to the end. Even when
being swindled.
Lose something just south of 100 MILLION EUROS...and make it
sound like they won some sort of battle/war.
By only "surrendering" a pittance to an American.

I read your post. Quite frankly, I'm kind of disgusted by the tone of this thread and your comment. It doesn't matter that he bilked mostly Democrats. Democrats don't deserve to get robbed any more by Republicans, and Republicans shouldn't take glee in the fact that Democrats got ripped off.

Also, plenty of the charities that got scammed are just that -- charities. Many aren't leftist, they have no political leanings whatsoever -- Ramaz high school (an Orthodox Jewish school), hospitals etc.

Perhaps you misunderstand me. I'm not taking any glee in any of this, and I sympathize with the victims.

It's just that Democrats who are crooked and corrupt are more numerous and generally more sleazy than Republicans. And a lot of that has to do with basic moral values or lack thereof, plus the fact that Democrats in general prefer bigger and bigger government, that results in more opportunities for crime of this sort.

Certainly the MSM isn't very likely to emphasize Madoff's Democratic leanings, so it's up to bloggers like us to call him out for it. If he were a Republican (e.g., Jack Abramoff, who didn't do anything one tenth as bad as what Madoff is accused of), you know that the MSM would be playing up his party affiliation to the hilt. That's the MSM double standard. Justice calls on us to do whatever l we can to try to balance out the MSM's inherent bias, regardless of how much or how little we may be capable of.

I, for one, am still smarting from the fact that the MSM's bias, including their deafening silence in failing to expose Obama for what he is, was largely responsible for the results of the recent election.

The worst part is that most states have a claw back law. The early victims who did receive some the proceeds are obligated to turn those proceeds back to the BK Trustee....
Ops!
