What if I told you that the main reason I voted for them was because they strongly supported Norway joining the EU?
*hides in a corner*
Pedersen.
Cool :-)
I am also a -sen.
Most of us are. At least us mere plebs :-)
Sure, I can vote. And Siv Jensen will surely be getting my vote next fall, unless global warming doesn’t get me first. hehe.
You should have a look in summer. Its quite nice here then.
Do you know which region your family hailed from?
Oops!
Our party have lately been hovering at a third of the electorate in opinion polls.
I think we are a bit lower at the moment, since the muslims haven’t misbehaved that much lately. So, yes immigration of the muslim kind is a major issue.
Unfortunately our msn is even worse than yours. It was also a major issue 3 years ago before the last election, but when the campaign started the msn did not mention it at all. Never came up in the debates.
Unfortunately, I think the financial crisis have damaged us somewhat. I guess the Norwegian electorate doesn’t share her view that Clinton’s regulation of Fannie and Freddie helped cause the crisis :-P
On Social issues?
What in particular do you have in mind...
Just from the top of my head (I admit they are not on the top of my agenda. For me it’s immigration and economy)
Anyhow.
Focus on Family. Wants the family to be sovereign, and works against government interference on family issues.
I.e. wants families to raise kids, not the government.
Sees marriage as the central institution. Against gays adopting etc. Against muslim forced marriages.
I guess the party can be classified as social conservative and economically liberal. In their intro to the principal party program they emphasise our Christian heritage, our constiution, and individual liberty. Not necesarily in that order :-)
I know the former party leader was strongly against abortion. well, I think he said something like I wish it was not legal, but i don’t want to prosecute young girls either...
That sort of answer your question?
Though on issues like abortion it is a tradition in Norway to view that as a matter of consciousness which is not under the rule of the party whip.
Alcohol. More liberalisation. Open for the sale of wine and liqour in
Why didn’t they?
Just to add for the record:
In my, albeit, limited understanding of the financial meltdown was more complicated than that. These democrat policies caused the rotten debt, but Wall Street ran with it and sold leveraged intruments that made the crisis really large and global.
What was the sum of these rotten mortages anyways? I doubt it is even close to what the current bail ours are amounting to.
lol.
I just discovered Dr. Who this fall. The new series.
I just loved it immediately. Both Eccleston and Tennant are great. Really looking forward to checking out the Christmas special coming up.
Perhaps it’s a good idea to check out some of the older series as well?
Off topic I know, but I’ll just assume this discussion takes place in a parallel world :-P
I was young, idealistic and dumb as a soup :-)
That really covers it; takk! I’m not Norwegian, just interested in conservative movements in other countries, and interested in Norway in general because I think it is a fascinating country.
Wow! A few rays of hope in the United Socialists of Europe!
I was too young to pay attention at the reign of Reagan/Thatcher, and I so crave a resurrection of the spirit of the times. Perhaps Norway will lead the way.
Thanks for posting the article. I so enjoyed reading it.
I am glad you enjoyed it.
Siv Jensen’s English is not the best. Some of her answers come across as being somewhat simplistic. She is definitely better in Norwegian.
I was unfortunately also too young to pay much attention to Reagan and Thatcher in the eighties. Though, I loved the space program, and was very touched by Reagan’s speech after the Challenger tragedy. But, I have caught up since, and share your desire for the resurgence of such figures.
Here’s to Siv Jensen and Sarah Palin leading our countries in the next decade :)
Though I don’t think either of them are the next Thatcher. Fortunately they don’t have to be. Perfect is the enemy of good enough.
Cheers.
No problems.
Follow my Live thread next year for the elections :-)
Have a nice weekend.
Oh, and for the record:
Neither Thatcher or Reagan were perfect either.
As much as we love them, let’s not make the saints in the images of our imaginations.
But, they were darned good.
And, most of the time that is all we can hope for :-)
what time of year will that be?
Lugar is a serious embarrassment. No wonder the Dems didn’t run a candidate against him in 2006. He was doing such an excellent job representing their interests.
