Well most of the time permit violations are just a fine. And he did wind up shooting himself, there’s some good punishment there.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2006 led the way to stiffen gun laws in New York City making it a mandatory 3½-year sentence for being busted for illegal possession of a firearm within the city.Sure glad I live in California.

The Giants may well rid themselves of this distraction. And according to NFL agreements with the Player’s Association, they can go after his contract money, signing bonus and all.

Too bad he didn’t do this before he kicked Al Harris’ ass in last January’s NFC Championship game.

Hell will freeze over before he does any hard time. Hard time for what?
Not that this particular charge would warrant it, but, he's a football player, not a border patrol agent.

Special treatment again for a spoiled cuddled moron. All that, and victim of a shooting as well.

I will not change my position that gun laws such as Burress is accused of breaking are violative of substantive due process and the Second Amendment even if the accused is a rich fool too cheap to hire protection professionals or too cheap and careless to obtain and keep a valid carry permit .

Looks like a good case for the Robert's Supreme Court.
From what I have read, Burres was permitted by the security at the club to enter with a gun. Sounds to me like a perfectly legal keeping and bearing of arms, despite the accident.

To be famous and black, I wouldn’t even have needed to apply for a carry permit!

You betcha...just like the Steelers did.
And while I think the gun violation is a bit much, he has a record of being a "distraction."
When he was here in Pittsburgh he used to drive one of these.

A Ford XUV (HUGE!) is not the best for getting around the narrow streets we have here. Of course if I had the money I'd have one. Maybe I'm just jealous, LOL!

"mandatory sentence"... except for the protected class...
weapons for me, but not for thee.
Just remember, that some animals are more equal than others. If it was you or me, we'd be in lock up and praying for the bail money to get out of general lock up.
But if that's what the New York citizens put up with , well good for them. Free country.

"These franchises should require these athletes to stay out of these clubs while under contract." I doubt that that would be very practical.
The characteristics of the typical NFL player are probably completely incompatible with a sedate life-style. If you want to watch extra-large frame, hightly competitive, highly-energetic and athletic men fight over a football each weekend, then there probably has to be some acceptance of the fact that they are going to be highly-visible, very competitive, and very energetic in their "private lives".
