AM talk stations in the DFW market are almost unlistenable

I can't go as far as you in your assessment of radio in this area but I do think we have some the poorest excuses for talk radio hosts in the country. I enjoy talk radio but not our local 'talent' and leading the list would be Mike Gallagher and Mark Davis. Weekends radio here to goes the pill pushers and money managers, no original local programing other than KAAM at 6pm with hours of oldies.

Something to consider...During October our 50,000 watt blowtorch WRVA was consumed by political ads. Our morning host, Jimmy Barrett complained that not only was he forced, by law, to run the ads, but that the politico's got the cheapest rate offered by the station, also by law. This is the highest rated morning show in the area, but he had to charge a rate as if it were a Sunday morning infomercial. Do you think this might have something to do with radio's October to October drop in revenues?

Just a thought...

I’m about to that point. Other than Mark Davis, Ed Wallace and the Fr. Corapi fire and brimstone hour ;) I can’t stand much of talk radio either. I have started to listen to Chanteurs on iTunes. I don’t understand much, but I do enjoy the music. I miss listening to the Hermann Bockelmann show, but 770 doesn’t do Internet radio. Actually looking at their website I guess they do now. I would really like to get a radio station that would do theater. Sometimes NPR has something good on at night in that regard.

What is wrong with Mark Davis? He at least spends plenty of time talking about local “going ons”.

I listen to “the Fr. Corapi fire and brimstone hour” and Chanteurs as well. There’s also a ye-yé internet radio station I like. I used to listen to the Mark Levin Show, but like the other “conservative” talk radio hosts, he’s still going on about Obama. Dude, the guy won — let’s talk about something else!

I wish Arlington had an AM station that focused on, you know, ARLINGTON, instead of on Washington, DC. And maybe they could play records by local bar bands or something as well. Anything but the same old corporate sliced-and-wrapped radio product.

That would be most excellent if you had a link on that.

“ye-yé”

Nippon station?

How did you ever listen to Mark Levin? His voice is why to whiny and high pitched. If there was a station about Arlington they would be still be arguing about the Jerrydome. LOL!

Oh in a non radio related issue, I picked up a slice of Irish Guinness Cheese! It is quite “marblely”. I will have to save some for you to try. The whole wheel was $102! :o

I have a real problem with his delivery and always have the feeling that he isn't so much talking with us but talking down to the listeners. A small thing with me that just drives me nutz about him...I always have the feeling that he would rather be a disk jockey instead of a talk show host.

I think the problem is more the talk show format. The talk show host only has so much time to give each caller and if a caller is obviously an idiot than that time is going to be even shorter, to make way for callers with decent opinions. Come on, to many people who call in are complete morons even if they are coming from the “right”. I think things would be better if fewer breaks were required, thus allowing more back and forth time. You will notice that any caller that is well spoken with a properly well thought opinion will get a few minutes and even invited to stay after the break. I will concede that sometimes Mr. Davis seems boorish, but I think that has more to do with the quality of the caller than his personality.

Radio’s Revenue Falls Even as Audience Grows

Revenue always drops in a recession. The key here is, unlike news papers and television news, the audience is growing.

I do agree with you about the number of breaks. WBAP does not want for advertising. It is hard to follow a line of conversation with all of the breaks.

You’re right about that. Guys, the election is OVER. We lost. Get over it.

Ye-ye is basically French pop music pre-1966, btw.

Yeah, I googled the ye-ye and got the drift that it was something French via the 60s.
