I called his offices. When I asked about the comments, the aide asked if I lived in Knollenberg's district. When I told him I did not, he hung up on me.
However, I spoke to a very nice woman in his Michigan office and she took my contact information, for whatever it's worth.

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Didn't Knollenberg just lose his seat? Wow, pretty soon we'll have a real democrat making these decisions instead of a democrat-lite.
A pox on all of them!!!

The real extinct species here is the small government, low regulation, economic conservative. You have people like Huckabee mouthing some social conservative positions who are unreformed new dealers. It is so easy for a socialist to support creationism, oppose abortion and homosexual marriage. Such beliefs don't make them any less a socialist.

Congressman Joe Knollenberg Falls To Peters
Nov 5, 2008 General
For the first time in 75 years
a Democrat will represent Michigan Ninth District in the U-S House of Representatives. Republican incumbent Joe Knollenberg lost his seat to Democratic challenger Gary Peters last night (Tues.). Knollenberg didnt formally concede to Peters in front of supporters at the Iroquois Club in Bloomfield Township
but acknowledged defeat looked inevitable. He ended up losing the race by nine points. Despite the loss
Knollenberg says he stands by his record in Congress:
This job that Ive had has been an avocation and a vocation. And Ive truly enjoyed my 16 years. And Im looking to the future.

Excuse me. The government throws every roadblock they can at industry, in the interest of being green or some other horsecrap, and now a loan to unwind the government blunders is socialism?

Doesn't surprise me. Even though you or I don't live in his district, these bailouts affect all of us. That "district" arguement is pretty weak when it comes to our money.....oh, wait, I forgot. "It's not our money."

Those roadblocks are why any bailout will ultimately do nothing to save the B3. For too long now, legislators have been taking the advice of "ecological" or "environmental" experts over the cold, hard facts coming from engineers. Whackos insist that emissions must be at "X" rate by "Y" date or the world will implode. Engineers know it's not possible, so they settle for stop-gap measures, which are both costly and ultimately ineffective. What we get from that are crappy cars which meet emission standards but fail every other kind of standard.
This isn't just about bailing out unions, but nobody on the forum wants to believe that.
Like I said, ultimately, the bailout does nothing but spell more doom for the industry. Look at all of the environmental strings that are already being attached to a possible bailout. Things will go from bad to worse. More government intervention is the LAST thing the auto industry needs right now.
