I am letting my Congress-critter know I will cease buying autos from any company that receives bailout money.

It’s called a competing idea. The average American would love to see the federal income tax axed, along with the IRS. The DemoSocialists want to use the income tax as a weapon to punish those who are successful and reward those who are slackers. The income tax system is just another socialist tool, and we the people don’t really want it. If 70% of Americans would like to end the federal income tax, and if they speak up, it will in fact be eliminated.

Let them liquidate and take the unions with them. The American people should not be expected to bailout bad businesses and bad unions. It's not about the product, it's about the company.

“... will not purchase a vehicle made by any company that is bailed out by the US taxpayer.”

Sort of an idle threat, since we already don’t buy their junk. :)- If I were buying a new car today, I wouldn’t even consider GM or Ford. Most likely it would be a Toyota or a Honda.

I also don’t believe they should receive a bailout. Chapter 11 for all three car companies. Request that all contracts be abrogated and work rules be terminated.

If Congress gives them 25B in Jan, they will have to give them 40B in May and keep going up because the the money is supposely a loan or preferred stock with a 10% dividend. However, they don’t make any money in hte US. How are their foreign operations?

Only bankruptcy is worth it. We mainly have bought Chevrolets or other GM cars, but Toyata makes good large vehicles.

Also, Nancy idiot wants them to only make green cars if they get any money and in 2010 when they 1,000,000 green cars they nobody will but, our glorious leader will require everyone that has a car to register wiht his civilian security corp and if you have three children with two less than 4 and one 6, and your family makes $200K they will only approve you for a 2 person green car and charge you 3X its cost because they need to give cars to people in hte civilian security corp because you can afford it.

“And when Obi wan gives the unions open voting they will encourage even more companies to move out of the country.”

I think their demise is inevitable now. Someone at work asked about buying a car for their kid and a shout went up from several co-workers “don’t buy American, they’re going under.”

Maybe O can spend some of the multi-millions he’s stashing away and help some of these unemployed Americans. No, he’d rather give them billions from our pocket even though it’s a lost cause.

The average American doesn't pay income tax, he gets a check from the socialist Dems. Income taxes are paid in large part by about 5% of the population, and almost entirely by 20%. Others down to the 50% line pay nominal amounts, and receive about as much at the midpoint. The entire lower half of the population gets money from the tax code (other than payroll), not the reverse.

Is that a valid number, $400 million?

If so, that should be all over the news. That is where the Dems excel and we consistently fail. How do you think the average Joe would feel if he saw that kind of money put into political campaigns when the company is going down for the count? We need to tell people how these unions have thrown their money away instead of supporting the workers.

No bailout! I was looking to buy a new vehicle, well, new for us,a ‘54 Caddy but we’re leaning towards a ‘62 HD Panhead for $4000.00. What a deal! Going to look at it tomorrow.

Oh, darn it all! I forgot about Oblahblah.

I’ll go back to my bitter clinging now.

That’s right:

http://www.ntu.org/main/page.php?PageID=6

That means the most influential and affluent people should support getting rid of the federal income tax.

The income tax should also be abolished for businesses, replacing both individual and business income tax revenue with the revenue from a national sales tax. This would be progressive and fair, since those with higher income and assets spend more. It would also promote savings and investment. Productivity would get a huge boost due to the elimination of the current cost of compliance = $$$billions.

This was on the news early this week. $400 million is a lot of money, but to our Congress they just push millions around like it was tokens.

Mike Huckabee said something tonight that should bring out every voter in our country to contact their congressmen and stop the handouts, Huckabee said “if you have money to give away or to bail out a company, think of our military and give it to them”. He brought tears to my eyes. Give millions to AIG so they can go to a resort—when the money should be given to the brave soldier's that fought for our freedom. We are free because our men went to other countries and fought for our freedom. Instead of bailouts, give the money to the brave hero's. HEAR THIS PELOSI & REID!!!

Chapter seven is the correct answer. Break up value is probably higher than the current market value anyway.

It is time for them to go. They will either recast them selves as smaller more efficient entities or be bought by competitors.

10 Cars That Sank Detroit
Friday November 14, 5:34 pm ET

By Rick Newman

The global financial crisis is suffocating the Detroit automakers, but the problems at General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler have been festering for years—even when the mighty “Big Three” were earning billions. Aging factories, inflexible unions, arrogant executives and shoddy quality have all damaged Detroit. Now, with panicky consumers fleeing showrooms, catastrophe looms: Without a dubious federal bailout, all three automakers face the prospect of bankruptcy.

There will be plenty of business-school case studies analyzing all the automakers’ wrong turns. But, as they say in the industry, it all comes down to product. So here are 10 cars that help explain the demise of Detroit:

It’s fine by me if they do, but they won’t. We aren’t subsidizing them. We should not subsidize Chrysler either.

Late in returning to this thread. You are all right, and I wasn’t particularly articulate. I am in no way in favor of a bailout, just lamenting what union greed, bad management and lack of progressive development caused. This is going to be ugly for a long time and not just in Detroit. But it’s a great time to buy a pick up or SUV at a deep discount if that’s what you like to drive. Some models are about 40% off in my local paper today.

Well, if chrysler gets enough subsidies, the other’s that aren’t subsidised will go under first.
