Try Onesuite calling cards at their online website.

Last I checked the were at 2.5 cents per minute. They also have a way of setting up your land line as a known phone so you don’t have to dial the 800 dial around number.

It has been a few years since I used them.

Use a kerosien heater and heat only the rooms that you are currently occupying.

A friend tried this and got a bad case of mold in an unheated basement room that cost more to repair than heating it would have. So only do this for upstairs rooms that you are sure are leak-free.

One of the local restaurants charges $1.00 per glass of water and will charge you again for a refill. He has made many people mad as they assume it will be free, so he gets many one time customers.

The people can nuke Obama's socialism if they simply do the following. The people could quit sitting on their hands and demand that the feds respect the limited powers expressly delegated to the federal government by the Constitution that they hypocritically sworn to defend, particularly the following statute.
Article I, Section 8, Clause 18: To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution (emphasis added) in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.
In fact, if the people were to wake up to widespread constitution-ignoring corruption in the federal government and insist that the feds comply with the above statute, constitutionally clueless Obama would be a lame duck president before he even takes the oath of office.

I'm actually glad that God gave Obama the Oval Office. This is because the people will be forced to reconnect with the Constitution and its history in order to protect themselves from Socialist Obama's misguided pen.

My grandmother taught me to use the water left over after cooking vegetables to water my plants and garden with. She never poured water down the drain that could be used outside>

You can also save it up for several days and then use it as the base stock for making soup or stew. Just be sure to raise it to a full boil for a half a minute.

...if everyone squeezes in every aspect of their lives, we should be prepared for perpetually high unemployment and shortages of goods and lower standards of living with no way out.

That's the nice thing about freedom -- nobody has to do the same thing, and you can bet most people won't. But for those of us who want or need to conserve, we can utilize the margin of fat others are willing to shell out for.

Don't belong to a gym, but walk an hour a day and do a non-zen pilates class and spend $60/mo rather than $1,000/year.

For those in states where it's available (we have this in Maryland), our health plan gives a discount on gym membership. I'm paying $30 per month with the discount. There are two yoga/Pilates classes a week, step and spinning and weight-lifting classes available 6 days a week, as well as the machines.

My in-laws keep their house so damn cold you could hang meat in their living room.

WASPs or working-class Irish, huh? LOL!

While it's laudable to find a balance between overspending and frugality, we also need to face the fact that if everyone squeezes in every aspect of their lives, we should be prepared for perpetually high unemployment and shortages of goods and lower standards of living with no way out.

How true! If "fiscal conservatism" were the norm (no worries..., it will never happen), then the consumer driven economy would shrivel up and die!

If you feel obligated to eat out, go out for lunch. The prices are usually better. You don’t necessarily get quite as much food; for example, the meal may not come with dessert, but restaurants usually give you so much food to begin with, that it’s not a big deal.

[steam from dishwasher after the wash cycle] Works as a facial too....just don’t stand to close!! That is awesome! What a great idea, also for sinus sufferers, rather than boiling water on the stove.

I have also heard that you can cook a large fish for company by wrapping it tightly in foil so that it is completely sealed, placing it on the top rack of the dishwasher, and letting it go through the cycle.

My hub and I also rewarmed grocery frozen dinners on our engine block during a cross-country car trip rather than pay for dinner in a restaurant.

It's winter. Subfreezing temperatures. Hanging wet clothes outside may be entertaining, but not real effective.

I hang mine in the already-warmest room of the house, which also has a linoleum floor: the kitchen. Do one load a day instead of all loads in one day.

I hang clothes out every opportunity I can. I watch the forecast.

It saves us about $30 -$40 per month.

If someone wants to start doing that. I suggest washing the heavy stuff like jeans and sweatshirts and doing those first. If you have to dry anything in the dryer, you’ll come out further ahead drying the light stuff. It doesn’t take as long.

1. We have done the following after reading a suggestion in our local newspaper: Place a bucket under the shower spray to collect the water that would otherwise drain while you wait for warm water. We use the water obtained this way for our rain barrel and to water indoor plants. You’d be surprised by how much water there is.

2. Consider a bread machine. Very little work to create great bread at less cost.

>>Flame away-maybe it will generate some heat so I can turn mine off. <<

You are the best!
I want to live, not just survive.

And some people’s priorities suck.

My in-laws kept the house at 65 all winter. The kids slept with mittens on.
Yet they had horseback riding lessons. Go figure.

If you have kids or family members that can’t manage to turn off lights, install motion sensor light switches. There are some that can be plugged into wall sockets for lamps or LED rope lights.

Combining a motion sensing wall socket switch with rope LED lights can light basement stairways and dark hall ways. It is nice keeping your hands free to carry items instead of carrying stuff AND searching for the light switch. Great for on demand night light for trips to the bathroom.

Be warned. If you have cats, they will defeat the energy savings by turning them on all night running through the house.

Get a magicjack (www.magicjack.com) Cost me 50$ first year 20$ a year thereafter

Great tip. Question: does it only work on the one phone that is plugged into the computer, or if you plug, say, your kitchen phone in, can you still get the benefit on the extension phones, like in your bedroom or basement?
