American citizens are going to pay $25 billion to the UAW Health Care Trust? Why? The UAW has done exactly nothing for us in order to earn this.
Actually, it will cost us more than $25 billion, because the money will have to be borrowed.
Smells more like Fascism to me.....
A car czar? Obamination is going to have czars for everything.
What BHO really has in mind is a Commissar of the Peoples’ Automobiles. GM will have a new model called the PeoplesWagon to compete with Chinese Junks.
China will win this contest, of course.
Will the new auto czar drive an import?
A car czar?
Given that he wrote a sizzling Bush bashing book, I suppose that “the one” will nominate Iacocca. A real good resume’ and candidate
Naming Czars is his answer to everything.

A Yugo in every garage!
Isn’t this the job of CEO’s????
This is so stupid, creating a Government run BEAUCRACY to over see a private company is not the answer. GOVERNMENT is NOT the answer to everything! It’s called economic Darwin’ism. Maybe if the US made decent affordable DEPENDABLE cars they wouldn’t be having this problem.
Obama is going to saddle himself with too many chiefs.
Car Czar?
Czar???????????????????? This is the Untied States of America! We don’t NEED or WANT a czar on our soil!
More government, less liberty.
Actually, Dr. Prahalad at the University of Michigan defined the Rule of Three that goes into more depth of the economic Darwinism you describe. In short, in an market, there will be 3 dominant players and several niche players. In the US market, 100 years ago we had over 100 carmakers. By 1980 we had, guess what, three! Now that the "market" includes the world wide market, the rule of three will be applied to this widened market. To date, several foreign auto companies have bit the dust. There simply is no room for 3 major US auto makers in the global market.
Auto Dictator you mean.
Where come from all these “czars”?

What’s more, the “drug czar” or even “global warming czar” are appointed to tackle a perceived problem and craft solutions that may address this issue.
A Car Czar would be a government office over a particular industry. What next? A Newspaper Czar, because Big Media is running the newpaper industry into the toilet? How about a Star Czar because Big Media is also running the music industry into the toilet?
Hey Automakers:
Abolish the unions. Fire everyone. Hire back the ones willing to work in non union shops for a reasonable wage with reasonable benefits.
There. Problems solved.
No charge.
I guess it doesn’t really matter. The American taxpayer will be there to make sure the big 3 don’t fail regardless of that theory.
I sent the following email to my Republican Senators today. I hope some other Freepers will consider sending a similar email to their Republican Senators (or even Democratic Senators, if you think they may find some backbone).
“Dear Senator _______,
Please oppose any and all proposed bailouts of American automobile makers. Poor performance should not be rewarded, especially not with the taxpayers’ dollars. For an economic system to be based even somewhat on competition and free-market principles, participants must be allowed to fail.
Car makers from other countries are doing okay, and even American car makers seem to be doing okay in areas where they have kept their labor costs under control.
I made some poor investment decisions during the past couple of years, and I am having to pay the costs of those decisions. I see no reason why American car makers should not likewise have to pay for their poor decisions.
Thank you for your time and attention.
