That’s not all baby Barney wants to nationalize.
When is someone going to have the courage to shut off the spigot? I'm sitting in front of my t.v. yelling, "STOP HELPING!".

What the heck, we already nationalized the finance sector. We’re all socialists now!
Socialism by Numbers
Once that you’ve decided on a gov’t takeover
First you make a stone of your heart
And if you find that your hands are still willing
Then you can turn a gov’t takeover into art
There really isnt any need for bloodshed
You just do it with a little more finesse
If you can slip a tablet into someone’s coffee
Then it avoids an awful lot of mess
Its gov’t takeover by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your abc
Gov’t takeover by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your abc
Now if you have a taste for this experience
And you’re flushed with your very first success
Then you must try a twosome or a threesome
And you’ll find your conscience bothers you much less
Because gov’t takeover is like anything you take to
It’s a habit-forming need for more and more
You can bump off every financial institution of your economy
And any other sector you find a bore
Because it’s gov’t takeover by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your abc
Gov’t takeover by numbers, one, two, three
It’s as easy to learn as your abcs
Now you can join the ranks of the illustrious
In historys great dark hall of fame
All our greatest dictators were industrious
At least the ones that we all know by name
But you can reach the top of your profession
If you become the leader of the land
For gov’t takeover is the sport of the elected
And you dont need to lift a finger of your hand
Because it’s gov’t takeover by numbers, one, two, three
It’s as easy to learn as your abcs
Gov’t takeover by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your a, b, c, d, e
Bankruptcy would be better for them if they want a chance to survive at all. If they are smart, that is what they will announce tomorrow. Barney can’t force them into this deal unless they sign up for it!
There is a reason why a company fails, either poor management, (caving in to unions?) or a poor product. GM, Ford, and Chrysler have all failed on both these accounts and should fade away. No company is too big to fail.
You have stumbled upon the open secret. In America we privatize profits, but nationalize losses. We privatize success, but nationalize failure.
You can trace this back to the Penn Central bankruptcy in 1970. That railroad failure took down every railroad in the northeastern US, and from the ashes Amtrak took over the Penn Central's Northeast Corridor, and Conrail was created to absorb all the failed freight railroads in that region. The logic was that there was a business and social need for those railroads and that the government needed to find a way to keep those enterprises live. (In 1980, the Staggers Act deregulated the nation's railroads, and every one showed a profit by the end of the year.)
We have nationalized retail banks (Continental, 1984), investment banks and GSE's. We nave nationalized the nation's largest securities insurance firm. The automobile manufacturers are next, followed by the airlines, which will be replaced by a government entity called Am-sky.
It's the paradigm of authoritarian capitalism, the paradigm that powers both Russia and China today. Another term for it is Corporate Fascism.
Barney, take your KY and go home.
“As if Japan’s automakers haven’t already been slapping the US auto industry up one side of the street and down the other going on for twenty five years”
You would think they would have caught a clue sometime during that period. Collective hubris or collective stupidity?
No thanks. I’ve already given at the office. Several times.
If they do somehow manage to pull that off and survive intact, this country will be a Communist country in every sense of the word. Then, the present Constitution will no longer be the supreme law of the land.
I know many of the newcomers to this planet seem to think your scenario is possible; but those of my generation are not going to sit idle or allow it to happen.
What's wrong with the above sentence? Let me add the omitted phrase. That's better.
The $25 billion would be separate from the $25 billion that Congress provided car manufacturers to retool factories to comply with tougher, Congressionally mandated, fuel-efficiency standards.
So Congress passes CAFE standards that cost the auto industry $25 billion and pushes them closer to bankruptcy, then gives them $25 billion to cover the costs. How about repealing the f'in "tougher fuel efficiency standards" and saving the taxpayers money.
“A constitutional crisis is coming. And, it is going to be the worst this country has ever seen.”

Coming? I’d say its upon us. Barry... show us your ACTUAL birth certificate before Inauguration Day!
I don’t know if Hitler designed the car, but Adam Tooze, in his book, “Wages of Destruction,” details how the Volkswagen was meant to be sold for credits that the worker built up. But no one could afford it. It was, at best, wildly expensive and far outside the “average” German’s reach. ALL were reserved for Party officials, and not one pre-WW II Volkswagen went to a “middle class” person.
I finally had to google ‘Trabant’ since everyone was mentioning them in this thread. Very scary to think of riding in one of those death traps on a modern freeway!
I’d rather ride on a horse...lol
THE GOVERNMENT WILL NEVER RUN OUT OF MONEY AS LONG AS IT HAS SUCKERS LIKE US WILLING TO PAY...
Sounds like it is way past time for another tea party...
April 15th is going to be an extremely angry day in America in 2009.
No. Hoover promised a chicken in every pot.
“but those of my generation are not going to sit idle or allow it to happen.”
HEAR HEAR!! I am with you all the way! This stuff already seems unconstitutional in every sense of the word.
