'Self Reliance':
"...An institution is the lengthened shadow of one man; as, Monachism, of the Hermit Antony; the Reformation, of Luther; Quakerism, of Fox; Methodism, of Wesley; Abolition, of Clarkson. Scipio, Milton called "the height of Rome"; and all history resolves itself very easily into the biography of a few stout and earnest persons."
"Stout and earnest": a good description of yourself, and your institution- Free Republic!

Very good.
Now here’s “the kicker” for me. Can anyone tell me why 4M American Internet posters and lurkers would hang out at the sneering, lisping, sputtering Huffington Post?

Congratulations Jim! I know I’m not alone in experiencing a profound sense of irritation at the wide-eyed Kos kiddies who proclaimed themselves the first political enthusiasts ever, ever, ever to realize the power of the Internet. But that’s one thing, this recent announcement of a 10-million-strong Obama Internet Army is something else again. We could be in for a fight that will make 1998-2000 look like a walk in the park. Eagles up!

I love Free Republic, even if it does have a fringe feel.

The main thing that struck me is that Rathergate was never mentioned.

If loving freedom, America, and the Constitution are “fringe”, then count me in!

We have our work cut out for us.
Yes, we do.
But, if anything or anyone can rescue this country from the great dangers which await us, it is Free Republic and the great posters which inhabits it. This is the place for patriots and great Americans.

Woo Hoo..What a blessing in my life Free Republic is..Thank you, Jim Robinson.
I wish one of the commenters there would be required to “prove it” on those muslim hate site comments.
I want to thank you, Jim, for keeping obscenities off limits on Free Republic...I won’t even go lurk to seek what the moonbats are saying anymore because of their lack of command of the English language. They only seem to be able to express themselves in 4 letter words.
God bless you and your fight for the Constitution, our freedoms and our troops.
God Bless America

Yes, and probably like you, I’m in it for the long term.
I just found out about a book written in 1944 that’s appropriate to the situation: Hagel’s The Road To Serfdom. I think I might order an extra copy, to give to my congressman.

Hayeks “The Road to Serfdom” , I really hate to correct people but I must this time. I own a signed first print of it, Thanks Grandpa; Happy Veteran's Day!

Hayek’s, right, of course. I misremembered.
That first edition signed? That’s a real collector’s item. On Amazon there were two used (presumably first ed., 1944). One was 69 and the other 74 — but of course neither was signed.
Not a grandpa yet, but yes I’m a 20 year vet!
