She won’t run for the Senate...she’ll stay on as gov and spend the next four years making policy statements that map out HER identity politiclly. You’ll also see her criss cross the country in 2010 working to get Republicans elected to build a network and a ground game for 2012. The Rpublican primary for 2012 starts today!!!

She has to take the timing into consideration. You have to start running for President 2 years before the election, so if she wants to run she’d have to start in 2010, which is when she would be up for re-election in Alaska. I don’t see how she could run, get elected, and immediately start running for President. Of course during a 2010 election, she’d be asked in debates, etc., “are you running for President?”. She can’t very well say YES and expect to get re-elected. So, then her choices would seem to be to not run again in 2010 and start on a Presidential campaign OR take Stephens seat in the US Senate. That would give her a couple of years in the Senate. What would be better to run for President as - a sitting US Senator? Or an ex-1-term governor?

With all the disgusting develops of late, here is an example where the dims basically shot themselves in the foot. By going after Stevens who is basically ancient and inert, they have boosted Ms. Palin further into the national spotlight.

McConnel's first act after she wins is give her a minority chair (yes as a freshman senator)in the Energy Committee.

This couldn't be setting up any better.

What do you suggest she do when her term expires in 2010? Run for re-election and start immediately running for President?

Sarah must find a way to maximize her time as Governor of Alaska. She will not be able to recapture the temporary glow
a possible McCain victory put on her as a big player in the Energy Future of the USA; not with a Leftist in the WH who is committed to NOT drilling, and certainly not willing to aid the longterm project of doing ANYTHING to make any Republican look good. His Democrat majority will see to that, and regardless of what he claims to want to do as a “uniter” (where have we heard that before?)any Energy progress that might be made in Alaska will have to be accomplished by some very outside-the-box thinking, not to mention funding.

Being in the Senate would also give Sarah more of a long term power base. We need her around as much as possible!

Oh, gawd. I hope not. It will suxor to the max to be a republican Senator. We see better things for our Sarah and gaining executive experience is part and parcel of that.

I think she’s in a much better position as Governor of Alaska than a junior senator in the minority party.

Bingo!

I agree that Stevens needs to be replaced, but Palin has to know that even with this election the path to the White House generally doesn’t run through the Senate chamber.

If Palin wins reelection then she'd be governor for 6 years come 2012. If she chooses to wait until 2016 then she could complete two full terms and have 2 years for her presidential run. The governorship will give her all the power base she needs.

Makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks for a bright spot on an otherwise dreary night.

That's a good point. I would guess we have about a year to come up with a bullet proof ticket. One that we can tell the RNC take it or leave it!

One thing I know for sure I am going to do everything I can possibly think of to prevent Charlie Crist from selecting our next potus candidate, that was an obvious disaster.

So the Kansas City (Red) Star is closely in touch with the thinking of “arch-conservative groups.” This article smacks of some thumb-sucking.

That said, it would suit me fine if Sarah ends up in the Senate - anything to keep her on the national stage. I hope conservatives across the nation organize around her. I think she can have an important role in the 2010 Congressional elections, traveling and speaking in support of Republican candidates (and thereby building her own base.)

Yes. Follow the route of GWB. He started running for President as soon as he was re-elected. 6 years of being Governor will kill any questions about her experience from the crappy mushy middle that gave this election to Obama.

On a side note, I hate the 10% of our country that is in the “middle”. They suck! At least the 45% hard core Democrats are honest about being Socialists. The 10% in the middle that pretends to be American and Capitalist, is in reality brain dead.
