Very good points. I thought the same thing. An experience pol like Murtha doesn’t just look at polls, he has a pulse for what’s really going on... what people are saying at bars, minor league ball games or what have you... he didn’t like what he heard and panicked and just said publicly what had been talked about privately.
People forget, but Kerry had some strong ties to PA through his wife, Teresa.

I do.
uhh what are you babbling about?
Murtha wasn’t the first one to bring it up. Rendell said during the primaries that PA would not vote for a black man over Hillary. That, among other reasons, was his rationale for supporting Hillary.
Rendell knows this state politically as well as anyone. Rendell knows Democrats have a higher voter ID than Republicans here so what he was telling us was that there was a chunk of Democrats who would not vote for Obama.
I’ve been telling you from day one, the polls are absolutely OFF in PA, they have completely missed what’s going on on the ground in this state. Fauxbama NEVER had a chance to win PA, and he and his peoples arrogance about it has assured that he’ll not only lose it, but lose it significantly.. and the problems he has in PA are not unique to PA, he’s got the same problems across the rust belt, he’s going to be dropping at least one or more other rust belt states on Tuesday.
The coal thing may be the final straw...
Three of them battleground states.
Hopefully some TV ads are being created as we speak and run BIG TIME on Monday & Tuesday on PA, OH, VA, WVA, CO, etc. Just using the internet will not be enough.
That’s the thing Chet, its not one thing, its a combination of many things, and has been from the start. No one issue or policy stand will be what cost Fauxbama PA, its the grand sum of his comments, his campaign, his personality and his policy stands, that make him utterly unelectable here... as well as I believe in other rust belt states.
All I am going to say about election night, is don’t get discouraged if you see some press try to call PA early... I think they are heading to a Florida 2000 situation on having to reverse themselves if they do this. He’ll do well in Philly, I believe he wont’ do as well as Kerry, but he may indeed outperform Kerry, but even if he does, it won’t be enough to hold it from the rest of the state that will be rejecting him heartily.
Most of the pundents and press are in complete denial about PA, they just report that McCain is still fighting here, but believe he has no chance. THey are going to be very loathe to call it for McCain, but will be willing to call it for Fauxbama far too soon.
