There was an earlier post on FR that was a blog post of a gal that was supposedly working for the Obama campaign in the marketing department. She basically claimed to have seen how the campaign's machine worked from the inside, but after seeing all of the dirty stuff going on, that she's a HRC supporter who will be voting for McCain. I dismissed the post, but something stuck out that makes sense with Axelrod's angst. The blog post author said there has been a massive campaign designed to show Obama as the inevitable President and to so dispirit McCain's supporters, that they would give up on Mac or even decide to vote for Obama so they could "vote for the winner". She said, though, the idea was to show a lead of like 13-15 points, NOT 3-5 points.

IF that is true, then the Obama campaign is in a very tight spot. The massive voter registration drive by such groups as ACORN was more about numbers than actual voters. Sure, the dems would like all of those registered voters to be actual, live voters, but the most important thing was to show a MASSIVE registration by first-time voters, even if a lot of them won't be showing up to vote. All the massive rallies, etc., are all designed to implant the idea in the head of indys and GOP that Obama is universally popular and that his election is inevitable. Their hope is that the indys will want to jump on the bandwagon and that the loyal GOP voters will get discouraged and stay home. In other words, they are/were trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Again, according to this supposed source, the plan was to have the polls showing Obama ahead 13-15 points. With those kinds of numbers, even if 5-10% is not based in reality, Obama still wins by 3-5%, which could equal an electoral landslide.

IF that's been the strategy, they are now at the end game with no wiggle room. The polls are tightening, and now looks like it's a 2-5 point race, maybe closer in the next couple of days. If, as we believe, that the polls have exaggerated Obama's numbers, this may well be a dead heat or even McCain is really ahead right now.

Either way, if the idea was to make Obama look overwhelmingly unbeatable, that's now starting to crumble and it puts their campaign in a no-win situation.
If they decide to do nothing and pretend everything is just fine, they run the risk of many of their followers not showing up and voting. If they decide to make it sound VERY URGENT that their supporters vote, then they run the risk of not sounding confident, which would go against the entire tenor of their campaign. It would make them sound panicked. The LAST thing they want to read is a headline in these final days that says something like..."Obama Campaign In Panic Over Slipping Numbers". That would discourage THEIR voters, many ambivalent indys would switch or not vote at all, AND it would rally the GOP. Some GOP voters who thought it a lost cause, might say "Yeah, we have a chance!", get excited and go vote, whereas they might not otherwise.

I don't think we'll see that panicked strategy from Obama unless we get a poll out by the weekend that shows McCain tied or leading in a major poll. If all the polls are showing a closer and closer race, then Gallup or Zogby break out with a McCain 1-2 point lead in a poll, the democrat voters will go apoplectic. It will be full-bore panic. And if 0bambi just keeps that expressionless look on his face, it won't reassure them. Their will be a tidal wave of panic from their base on up.

And when the fence-sitters and moderate GOP smell the blood in the water, they'll see who has the momentum and jump on board.

What the heck is with transform and transformational?

Don't you remember those transformer toys they had back in the eighties? They started out as some innocent toy and you could reshape them into warrior figures. I think it's liberal speak for "I have hidden inner strength...in my own mind".

I think we are all also motivated by a horror of Obama.

What do you think, is he detested more than Gore, or Kerry?

The tides are turning because, finally, Obama is being exposed for the liar, socialist, marxist, wanna-be communist, radical, racist he is. Even the MSM can’t stop the flood of information now. Thank God for Hannity, Rush, Greta, Brit Hume, Laura Ingraham, and all of the other honest, God loving American journalists and commentators!

And thank God for Fox News. I don’t like every program, but dang it all, if we didn’t have Fox News, we’d have nothing...nada...no one in the t.v. MSM reporting what needs to be reported. (rant off)

he is a genuine race based western civ deconstructing radical who has almost hoodwinked the most powerful nation on earth because of a lying media and utterly hopelessly weak white people

psyops! arg!

no wonder they call it a “campaign,” it really is war

I like to think the GOP infantry would show up to vote regardless, but I can see how the inevitability myth can really squelch volunteering, contributions, and obviously the general morale of the troops.

“Is he detested more than Gore or Kerry?”

IMHO, it isn’t even close. The Obomber scares me a hundred times more than Algore or Jean Carrey.

So David Axelrod fears a McCain comeback. Well, I have a message for David Axelrod: “Why are you afraid of John McCain? Where is your faith and confidence in your Messiah, Barack Obama? Are you afraid that your beloved Messiah will fall behind in the polls and possibly lose? How could Barack Obama lose, if he is the Messiah? Couldn’t he make the earth open up and swallow John McCain? Couldn’t Obama simply call down fire from Heaven, to devour all who oppose him?”

I am no fan of McLiberal.

But you have to give the man his props. He’s a survivor and God must have a plan for him.

He was written off as a loose cannon and troublemaker at the Naval Academy....

He became their most famous alumni.

He was written off for dead after getting shot down and sent to the Hanoi HIlton...

He survived

He was written off and given up for dead after George W. Bush beat him in 2000. algore was so beaten and disgruntled he grew a beard and started yapping about the end of the world like an insane hermit....

John McCain stayed calm.

McCain was written off for dead by me and everyone else here in the GOP Primary when his campaign staff quit, he had no money and only his Mom, kids and wife who would vote for him....

He won the GOP nomination.

McCain was sent up against the messiah and the hordes of socialist MSM and given up for dead....

He will win this election next Tuesday.

Even better, there is nothing like a Centrist scorned to piss of libs. He reached his hand out to them and they bit his knuckle.

President McCain will take a sharp turn to the right just out of spite.

Exactly. Despite how "jazzed" Obama supporters are, or are portrayed to be, imagine how devastated they would be if McCain pops up with a lead at the very end, and imagine how euphoric the GOP would be. It's like a football game where one team has seemingly dominated the other in every stat, but only leads by 6 points on the scoreboard after a 10-point lead at the half. Their fans have been cheering the entire game, while the other team's fans seem depressed. Then, with under 2 minutes to go, the underdog finally finds something that is working - giving the ball to "Joe the Plumber" to grind out some yards, while QB McCain keeps hitting top draft pick Sarah Palin with passs to make clutch 3rd-down catches for first downs. As they continue marching down the field, their fans have a bit more hope and the other fans start to get a little more worried. I would say right now, McCain is in that position, needing a TD. He's got a first down in Obama's "red zone". Now, if the team can get the ball across the goal line, tie it up and kick the XP for the win with no time left on the clock, imagine how crazy those fans will be going? Imagine how depressed the other fans will become. It all can change in an instant.

I have been thinking for about 2 weeks now that people will soon suffer from 0bama “fatigue.” This guy is on thousands of radio and tv commercials in South Fla. I think the 30 minute infomercial may backfire.

I've wondered about that too: Oversaturation.

I’ll tell you this: When I watched Gore’s concession speech in 2000, I actually had some respect for him, because it was so classy. Of course, that went away after he started pushing the global warming scam.

But Obama? There’s nothing that little baby-killing poser could ever say that would make me respect him, even for a moment.
