I think you are so right. Republicans are jumping ship not conservatives. Conservatives (me) do not belong to the Republican party as is, however, I am voting for the party because the alternative is not bearable.

Christopher Hitchens has never been a conservative (European liberal,, writes for the nation), however, he was/is pro war on terror including Iraq. So, whatever. These guys are very articulate, and smart sometimes but not always.

I saw Krauthammer on FOX this evening and he refused to call Obamas wealth redistribution socialism...that was an amazing performance - infuriating actually - Charles was right of course that Obama's plan isn't socialiam, which involves State ownership of the methods of production - but it is communism, which as Brit correctly described involves "from each according to his means to each acording to his needs" - just another way of saying "sharing the wealth". Krauthammer's tortured explanation that we already have a graduated income tax doesn't cut it, since that's a way of getting money into the government which has been distorted because "some people can afford more than others", not of using the government to redistribute the money which of course appears as a function of the government no where in the Constitution; his dismissive argument that probably tax rates will go up to only about 40% is a weaselly way of dodging the issue. Somebody should remind Krauthammer and his ilk that "share was wealth" was the rallying cry of Huey Long, a guy so far to the left that he brokewith FDR as being too conservative because Roosevelt wouldn't institute a guaranteed annual wage for everyone in the country....
Kratuhammer's usually right on in his observations and comments, but he has been wrong before, like the time he dismissed the Swift Boat Vets as lying troublemakers. Even a psychiatrist can get off his meds sometimes........

Ya gotta love Krauthammer.
No mincing words. No kissing A.
All those other “conservatives” standing up for Obammie the Commie can go to hell with their careers and cocktail-party invitations.
