Police tell KDKA that a campaign volunteer has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter B in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.
Ashley Todd, 20, of Texas, initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield and that the suspect became enraged and started beating her after seeing her GOP sticker on her car.
Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test.
Authorities, however, declined to release the results of that test.
Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and “the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction.”

I am usually cynical about the intelligence of the general public, but once in a while something like this restores a bit of my faith.
That said, it was rather silly to run a poll on the subject before the evidence (and the confession) was in.
I was simply commenting on people quickly throwing her under the bus for it possibly being a hoax. That they would rather it be fake than show some sympathy to someone who may have just been assaulted with a deadly weapon.
I never once said that it DID happen only that there is always the possibility that it may have happened and we should let the details come out.
I am always for innocent first.
She claimed to be attacked and I gave her the benefit of the doubt.
I still feel sorry for her even though she made it up. She obviously has something wrong in her life that needs to be addressed.
Oh come on. Enough with the soft sell. You called me a troll for pointing out the obvious, that the attack was faked. It was as clear as the nose on your face. I saw it, other FReepers saw it, Michelle Malkin saw it, and we all knew it before she confessed.
Unfortunately, there is always a certain number in any political group who are so blinded by the emotions involved in the competition that they're blind to the facts around them. Luckily, I do not suffer from that particular malady. You however do, hence the egg on your face for calling me a troll for simply pointing out what was obviously true to anyone not blinded by emotion.
I just stated that you were quick to throw this woman under a bus for her assault. I did indeed call you a troll, only because you sounded like you WANTED this to be a hoax and were willing to discredit this woman before you knew all the facts. The media does this all the time as you well know and so do the "trolls" that lurk here. The impression you gave me on your comments was that of a troll.
While I do not know you, you probably are not a troll so I will retract my accusation there, but you were at the very least insensitive to what could have been a serious assault.
I just wanted to wait to see what came out about this BEFORE I drove my bus over her.

Just do everyone a favor and don't be so quick to push alleged victims of violent crimes under a bus for "possibly" faking it.
