I think it’s going to be a hopeless task to try to control exotic species these days.

Ultimately, yes, however these things don’t always work in our favor, depending upon what sort of sea creatures they might wipe out. Imported fire ants, for instance, have been extremely hard on ground dwelling bird populations in some areas.
My mother once had this large and beautiful lion fish in her salt water tank. Glorious fish indeed, in a 400 gallon tank with a whole community of other fish. Well one week, the guy she hired to take care of the tank accidentally dumped acid into it, killing EVERYTHING in the tank except the Lion Fish. He had alot of his amazing finnage burned off, but that sucker survived and was transfered to another tank where he lived out his life. Tough SOB.
That concerns me too. I think of the cane toads introduced as well as nutria and I think kudzu.
