Since Powell states that he chooses to remain a Republican and the reasons he stated for his support of Obama are specious at best shows that his motivation is all the more transparent.
In the end this endorsement may help McCain because of the racial component and that it brings the "War on Terror" and Iraq back as campaign issues. Make no mistake that Powell was on board the Iraq invasion train and for making Afghanistan a NATO problem. Powell was for invading Iraq before he was against it. Many question to Obama about the obvious differences of opinion over the invasion of Iraq.
This should be factored into to any thoughts about Colin Powell..

Powell said he’s not leaving the Republican Party. oy vey. he is spineless. if he can support O and his policies, he is no Republican, and should leave the party.
I used to think that deep down most black folks would do what the Irish and Italians, and others have done....that is, put their ethnicity behind their citizenship.....the older generation of black people did this.....but no more...I must conclude that for most blacks it is RACE FIRST, COUNTRY SECOND...Very depressing.

He retired early when the Clinton administration promoted gays in the military under a Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell sham and suddenly he’s all for gays serving openly in the military.
And that’s just one area where he’s flip flopped to serve his race rather than his country.

How many times have I seen Freepers say that they would vote for Powell for President or, curiously, they mention at the same time that they would vote for Rice.
Is the grandest goal in life for you Freepers that have echoed those sentiments to be proclaimed as “not a racist.”
No wonder we’ve been losing in the political realm for so long. Attitudes like that play right into the liberals’ hands.
Bush really has bad judgment on who his friends are, doesn’t he? Add Powell’s dagger to the rest in Bush’s back. Or should I say chest as Bush just seems to take it as is?

The funny thing is that both Obama and Powell are not tied to African-American bondage. They are Kenyan and Jamiacan.
Martin Luther King would be sick. Most people are smart enough to figure out that Powell is simply embracing Obama because he’s black. So much for being a “colorblind” society.
Well, Powell claims to be a long time friend of McCain, so I guess his judgment on friends isn’t much better.
Seems to me if you really are a long time friend of someone, even if you’re not going to vote for them you keep your big trap shut. Nobody needs to know who you’re voting for.

Tribal, tribal, tribal... looks like I'm going to need a tribe of my own soon. Once I had learned more about the background of Desert Storm, I was uneasy whenever Colin Powell seemed to be on "my side." Once again, my gut instinct gets it right.
