In true context Obama said something to the effect of:
[John McCain would have you believe that] a plumber is the guy he is fighting for.
So, that clever bit of editing makes it seem like he’s mocking the plumbing profession, when he’s really suggesting that McCain is not really interested in looking out for working-class plumbers. Context matters.
Now, the second part, where he says “how many plumbers you know who make 250k”, is the condescending tone of a collosal prick.

Palin's selection as VP put the Dems' coronation of the Obamessiah in danger, so they attacked her in force.
Joe made Obama look bad last night. And let's make no mistake. The passionate media, Obama and Dem reaction to Joe mean they KNOW (via polls or whatever) that Obama was owned. So their response is fairly predictable.
