...the new law allows up to $20 million in penalties for failure to meet the benchmarks for electricity usage cuts.

Translation: yet another tax increase

Ah, politicians. Only a legislator-look thinks up such silliness. Why do we allow ourselves to be governed by folks who we would not hire for any real job?

Thanks Gov. Looks like more industry will be leaving your state and heading south to Texas. We have a lot of industries and jobs moving here from the nut belt states that is keeping the economy here just humming along thank you.

Solution. Cut off power to the statehouse and to the homes of all politicians that voted for this.

This isn't going to reduce electricity consumption. It's just going to result in millions of dollars in fines. It's a tax increase on electricity by another name.

The idiots are probably pushing plug in cars at the same time.

The reality is that they want to act like they are doing something about global warming, which is all about grabbing power, and they want to increase revenues, which is also about grabbing power.

They should start by cutting HVAC costs to state government offices and turning down the lights in the Governor’s office.

And the thousands of streetlights that waste 80% of the light they produce into space - Tuscon AZ should be a model for every city.

How can utility companies guarantee less usage, short of turning off the power?

No problem, right after business and their associated workers start leaving the state, they should have no problem meeting the decrease.

Come to Texas, we have our own grid.

They should start by cutting HVAC costs to state government offices and turning down the lights in the Governor’s office.

They should start soon to get Hillary's henchman and their former Assistant AG, Mr. Philip J. Berg, Esq. his day in court to prevent a huge Constitutional crisis brewing before Nov 4!!!

It isn’t so hard. Rendell just has to stay the course with his idiot tax and spend policies and more people will move out of Pennsylvania. Fewer people = less electricity use. But it will also equal less taxes to finance his hare-brained schemes.

Instead of a usage minimum/maximum per household based on occupancy - notice they're talking forcing people to buy new refrigerators, stoves, the already mandated light bulb (by 2012) etc.

Whatcha bet they're buying stock in said appliances. Shooting fish in a barrel - decide on a product, take out stock, have it mandated by law - and voila.

They've already mandated what toilets we must have - regardless of whether you're on city water or, like me, live surrounded by bogs, have my own well and my water table is about spoon deep under the surface...not to mention a septic tank that operates better with the extra water.

The gov’t has NO RIGHT to mandate what we buy and put in our homes. They may, at times, need to ration water or power - but there should never be money to be made by anyone by mandating what you have to buy...and put in our home.

And one size does NOT fit all.

It's not about energy savings - it's about control.

Let’s cutoff power to every politician who voted for this monstrosity. This law portends the future: if HE (and his wise rat friends) decree, you shall make it happen. HE can control the wind, sun, and air. HE can clothe, feed, and care for us. HE can ensure our happiness and harmony. HE can deliver us from any evil.
