>> I assume they believe the money can be spent better on other events/buys.

I sincerely hope your assumption is correct, regardless of how they spend their funds.

Actually, from what I have seen, Schmidt is doing a bang-up job running the campaign. I think Sen. McCain was doing very well also, from the time Schmidt came on board, right up until he flew to Washington and made an ass out of himself during the bailout fight. Lately my confidence in McCain’s campaigning ability has taken a hit, however.

>> Don’t think for a second that McCain will ever consult Palin.

I’m not suffering from any delusions there, FRiend. Still, with or without Palin, McCain is better than Obama. Not marginally better, but unequivocally, clearly better. Not because McCain is so good, but because Obama is so horribly unacceptable.

On the other hand — Palin represents a bright future for conservatism (IMHO). It would be wonderful to get her in the #2 slot next year.

Schmidt was doing alright until the dynamics of the race changed. The rove formula doesnt work when there are more present issues than red-meat conservative turnout.

yup. i think he lost a few voters with his “mccain is out of time” practically declaring himself POTUS. no body likes a arrogant smug blowhard. i say give him all the air time he wants. the more folks see him, the less there is to like. i believe this ACORN deal is truly going to hurt him. he can not weasel out of it. ayers connection has got a lot of air time. any minds changed about obama by the news has already done so. i think mccain needs to hammer home the ACORN mess and tie it to the economy and wrap this financial mess around obama so tightly not even a contortionist could get out of it.

How much have you donated? TV time isn't free

Because he chose to take federal funds for his election, McCain is limited in how much he can spend. Obama did not and is not so limited.

So it really doesn't matter how much someone donated, McCain might not be able to spend it anyway.

But he can give up something else. He can concentrate his money into the battleground states, he can get his message, whatever it is, out.

Because no one can stomach McCain talking for 30 minutes. So put him on for a 5 minute intro, and a 5 minute joint wrap up, and put Sarah on for 20 minutes. Lots of folks would pay to watch those 20 minutes.

for McCain, Palin is a gimmick and he will make sure she's kept far away from any power.

FDR did much the same to Truman. McCain is 72 years old. So you never know.
