Thanks for your input. As I recall, John Tower was going to be Reagan’s Secretary of Defense but was one of the early victims of the Democrats new strategy of Politics of Personal Destruction.
Clayton Williams destroyed himself with a stupid redneck comment to some of his buddies just before the election.
My main point was that starting in the ‘60s the reliably Solid South Democrats began to change parties, not because the Republicans suddenly became popular, they had been hated throughout the South since the Civil War and Reconstruction, but because the Communists who had been undercover in the Democrat Party for years suddenly became bolder. LBJ, who the South had depended on to save them from the “liberal” Kennedys, sealed the deal by being even more liberal than the Kenndys. The South, including Texas, then became solidly Republican and it was ideological, not putting their fingers in the wind for some political calculation.
Clayton Williams made that comment at a press conference in response to a question from a journalist.
Unfortunately we are about to see all of that reversed - I expect Texas to be Democrat by 2016 (all though the demographics people are saying possibly earlier). All of the immigration from Mexico (both legal and illegal), California, and New England are starting to have an impact.

Noriega did not respond to the questionnaire.
Losers cant answer questions that are directed at them. try answering my questions.
You are entitled to your opinions, but not your own version of reality. Noriega is a terrible candidate who will be lockstep with the worst Pelosi and Obama throw at us, and your failure to acknowledge this is inexcusable.
“Maybe not enough to vote Noriega, but enough not to vote for Cornyn.”
But that’s the point af_vet: You can disagree on one vote with Cornyn, but it takes a troll or someone with a screw loose to then go on to support Noriega.
Noriega has attacked Cornyn for not spending enough money, attacking him because he didnt triple SCHIP spending, and even smearing him for not supporting a bogus GI Bill (Cornyn supported a better alternative bill).
Noriega will be voting for every taxpayer-bilking bailout he can.
“I’m not going to defend myself”
Obviously.
Whatever Cornyn did on one bill that you or I disagree with, it is indefensible to vote for much worse in liberal Democrat Noriega.
Thanks for the corrections.
You are correct about the demographics. I live in the Austin area and I am amazed at the number of people from other areas who have moved here.
In addition, I was talking to a frail 85 year old man the other day and he blamed all our problems on “that damn Ronald Reagan.” I just smiled and left him with his delusions.
Talk about brain dead.
