If McCain is such a master, why did he lose to GW Bush in 2000?

A valid question, but Obama is no George Bush experience-wise, and Obama won't be in a thousand years.

It looks like the fighter pilot McCain is on Obama’s six and is waiting for missile lock or until he is close enough to go to guns.

I listened to the presser and Obama mentioned a number of times that it was HE who contacted McCain over this issue, taking full credit.

People tell you what scares them if you listen.

Obama knows McCain looks presidential in this act.

For Obama to keep pointing to the timing of the phone call is very small and a sign of fear. The fate of the economy and the country are lower priorities for Obama than the fate of his image over the timing of a phone call.

If Obama refuses to return to Washington, and spends the next two days cramming for the debate, then it won’t matter how well he does. If he does better than McCain, it will be because McCain was distracted by the people’s business, while Obama was more worried about primping for the debate. If McCain beats him, it will demonstrate conclusively that McCain can multitask, while Obama cannot.

I think it can be safely said now:

John McCain has gotten into Obama’s head,

and now he’s starting to eat his way out...

Welcome to FR.

Not so sure about McCain being a chess master, but he has made a series of good decisions lately, at least until he got into the "strong foundations" tussle. We will see if his adventure in DC these next two days helps or not. To keep momentum, he absolutely has to keep the base as excited as it was when he named Sarah Palin, and the base is uneasy about the bailout. He will have to negotiate some treacherous waters.

All he has to do is emphasize the many opportunities that Barry missed at Town Hall meetings.

Yeah I am sure the MSM will help him get that message out

Totally agree...and it's the best news I've heard in days!

What I think I just heard on FOX (Breaking) is McCain said the first debate should be moved to next week in Missouri? which was to be the vice-presidential debate, but now should be the Presidential debate...

..and that Sarah Palin and Biden should take the Friday night slot this week in MIssissippi?

Did I hear correctly?

I like this analogy. You can bet that McCain has an end game to this strategy. You KNOW he's not going to let Obama debate an empty stage. I'm betting that it's been in the works the entire time to send Gov. Palin to debate Obama because Senator McCain is too busy working to fool with partisan politics.

"Gov. Palin is going to be my vice-president. I trusted her skills and judgment enough to become leader of the free world should something happen to me. I have full confidence that she can handle a debate with the junior Senator from Illinois."

Thank you for the common sense analysis. Needed that. :o)

I’m assuming McCain offered up a presser this morning rather than just a notice?

” I listened to the presser and Obama mentioned a number of times that it was HE who contacted McCain over this issue,..”

Obama got bushwacked today and he looked and acted like a whining little kid.
If McCain’s move was so dumb, the Democrat consultants would not all look like deer in the headlights as we speak.
Matthews looks stricken and is angry at McCain for changing the dynamics again.
They only wish Obama had done this instead of McCain.
Hillary might have done this.
The ads are going to be great.
Obama eating snow cones and complaining about the economic crisis.
While McCain goes back to DC, like a POTUS returning to the White House.
The same people that went beserk that President Bush did not immediately return to DC on 9/11
are now apoplectic that McCain has returned to DC to handle the crisis.

Is b.hussein lying? I thought McCain stated he contacted b.hussein first?

"“I can’t campaign while America’s got this kind of trouble” was tried before, and it failed."

The last time McCain suspended his campaign, he came back to win the nomination.

I believe b.hussein is lying. I base that on further info from this and a few other threads. The timeline indicates it was McCain first.

"....And how small she had grown—and how brown—and covered with PRICKLES! Why! Mrs. Tiggy-winkle was nothing but a HEDGEHOG. ."

We read this Beatrix Potter book to our little daughter so many times years ago. We love it!

This could all depend on the format of the debate. - Is it a real debate, or a propaganda-statement-disguised-as-a-question dog and pony show?

And if so, will McCain be as nimble as Ron Paul and Tim Huckabie were in the primary debates, by restating the “proper question,” and staying in control?

Mrs Tiggy-winkle has long been my favorite Potter character. We read it to our daughter over and again way back when.

When did McCain suspend his campaign. I was referring to Carter, he suspended his re-election campaign so he could “focus” on president type stuff and lost. It’s really not that great a plan.
